Hey what’s up guys! This is my first post glad to have this awesome community!

So today I went on a little 3hr round trip with with my 06 vee and on the back half of the trip, it started doing this whirring noise between 4-5k rpm and just an all around weird sound when I shifted between there, it sounds normal the rest of the time and it didn’t really affect power it felt like, but it’s just unnerving hearing that sound, I’ve only had her for about 2 months and about 3,000 of her 68,000ish miles.
I’m gonna see if I can upload a video I took of the sound on the way back.
Any help would be most appreciated

At a certain engine speed regardless of gear I’d look at something in terms of vibration. It’s obviously a harmonic disturbance if it’s only in a certain rpm range vs speed, gear, or terrain.

Harmonic stuff could be internal too, cam shaft or any other turning or adjoining parts. Valves ever checked?

Not sure about the Vee but the Wee is famous for an engine vibration/harmonic distortion at 4700-5000rpm so if anything (like crash bars etc) is prone to vibration, that is when it will become most noticeable.

Ask Realshelby about clutch chudder. That's the right age and RPM for it to happen. He has a link to some tests you can run to figure out if it's chudder or not.

I've noticed that on my 650 as well, especially before I re-applied tape to the plastic spacer between the crash bars. It seems like if you are on your way through that RPM range, up or down the vibration is minimal but if steady cruising somewhere around there, I notice a little harmonic hum. Must have something to do with camshaft weight or something spinning at certain frequency? Otherwise its one of the smoothest powerplants I've ever owned.

It's a new bike to you still. Maybe you've just noticed something that's been there all along? Air intake? Fuel pump?

Any harmonics on mine (same bike) happen nearer 3000 rpm. That would vary depending on the particular crash bars you have (if any).
