Most of the cages I see about these days have instantaneous fuel economy readouts; they tell you the fuel economy that you are getting right now. My friend's Suzuki SX-4 tells her that she gets 29MPG while whizzing down the freeway @ 85MPH and 40MPG @ 60 while following a semi.

I want one for my bike.
Does anyone make an aftermarket device that does this?
Can anyone help me with some ideas on how to build one?

My company used to make diesel truck hop-up kits. Our device would monitor the length of the fuel injector pulse to determine how much fuel was used. If enough math was applied to that data, I suspect it could be turned into a fuel economy number...

Any thoughts?

Suzuki has this fuel monitor feature on the Burgman 400. It displays average MPG or instant MPG (also metric) etc. I'm not sure how or where the calculations are done but I suspect it would require something in the ECM to feed a digital display. The Burgman also has an ambient temp display that takes it's sensor input from the Throttle Body Intake. I'm not sure you will find a cost effective way to do any of this on a Strom.
