Vstrom is gone

I sold my Vstrom today. I had owned it for 11 years and it had served me well. Never had one issue with it. All it needed was consumables. Reliable as a hammer. However......it did it all OK, but nothing really outstanding and I was wanting more off road capability. Hence the KTM 790 Adventure R. I had only put about 1000 miles on the Strom in the last 3 seasons so it was time to do something. The plan was to take the Vstrom to Europe and leave it there but Covid and big hikes in freight costs put that plan to rest. Combination of selling price + freight cost = rental for a lot of days in Europe and I don't have to worry about storage, licensing, insurance, etc.

I will still hang out here if you all don't mind. I enjoy the forum. A great source of a lot of things. Some of even Vstrom related.:)

Take care all. Hope to see you down the road.

I have had the KTM since spring of 2020. It is a hoot to ride but a bit of a maintenance queen compared to the Strom.

Start of a great ride along the eastern slpes.

She is getting married on the Labour Day Weekend. Sounds like you'll be gone then...

Tom,
I don't leave until after Labour Day so give me a shout when you get into town and we can grab a beer.

The Weddding is Sept 3rd (Near Golden BC.) . If things go smoothly I should be in town a few days before that so we should be able to grab a beer .

See you then!

Rod: Beautiful photos, what a pretty place! You had a long run with your Vsrom and got many great years and miles from it, nothing to explain there. I spent seventeen years living with a Gen 1 and then a Gen 3 Vstrom and nothing but praise for them. I too finally moved on as I downsized to one bike and as it was going to be my last I went with a Tiger 900. It best checked all the boxes of what I need at this point in life so I understand your switching.
BTW: I never had a bike while living in Europe (I did the Porsche thing instead) but I did enjoy my Honda Scrambler while living in East Africa (Northern Ethiopia).
Enjoy that KTM!

Give me a shout and I'll join you two.

Ive owned 6 other bikes during my Strom ownership and never did sell the Strom. I am now back on it!
My friend Alexis is in the Stans right now on his SWM, I get nightly updates via whatsapp, the bikes been there for 1/1/2 years he actually bought it from his local Virginia dealer and picked it up at the factory in Italy and registered it in Virginia so he did not have to pay the shipping costs.
He speaks Russian and is having a blast.

Dealing with the same "problem", also have a better bike in the garage, next to my '18 Vstrom650xa.
On its own the strom 650 is fun and cute, but ever since I picked up my '22 Africa Twin ADV Sport I see how the strom is not getting ridden as much...mostly because I do miss the torque , everything else is good, the suspension, handling, brakes/ground clearance not so much, but yes when compared to my AT the Vstrom 650xa is just gutless, which is to be expected since AT is 1100cc and 100hp.

So the message is: "if you own a Vstrom 650, don't buy a second (better) bike !" ;)

And good luck Rod in exploring all the Kazakhstans (y) I'll keep my eyes open for your KTM, as I believe we live in the same province ;)

Could be. I sold my first '04 in 2014 to a fellow who lived in Braeside if I recall. That you?

No - the ST was mine first. You bought it from a dealer in Saskatoon. We met up in Regina after - you had a friend that lived just off Elphinstone.

That is correct and I then sold it to a fellow here in Calgary some 8 years and a couple hundred k kms later. Replaced it with another '04 (with only 50some k kms on it) that a friend of mine had at a price I could not pass up. Still got that one. Probably keep it until I can't lift it off the sidestand anymore.

You are off on your new big adventure. She's a cutie! A good looking motorcycle you have there. How do you like the girl?
How do you like the girl?
I only have put 30 miles on it so far. Seems to work pretty good. Hopefully get a chance to get it out into the woods in the next day or so to see how it is. Seems a little more "docile" than the KTM which is a good thing for me.
