I'm from Ontario! I have an R3 at the moment, but it's not my favorite.

I ordered the 800de back in January with an estimated June delivery. I have a 3 week camping ride to BC and back planned for late July. I want to be ready, so I'm already trying to figure out a plan for the luggage.

It's not likely that any aftermarket racks will be available by the time I go on my trip. The easy solution would be to purchase all of the suzuki accesories, but buying a new bike is already dumb enough so I would like to avoid that.

I might buy the Suzuki tall windshield as it may be the only one available.

My current plan is to slap a great big Nanuk 960 case on the back as a top case, and use Nelson Riggsoft saddle bags. I need to figure out some sort of rack to keep the saddle bags off the exhaust and keep them from flapping around.
Welcome aboard.

Which part of Ontario are your from? I'm between the GTA and the KW region.

Congrats on the new bike.
A little sales pitch. I have a Givi top case (46L) with mounting plate that I will be selling. I also have some Oxford soft saddle bags that I will be putting up for sale. (let me know if you would be interested and I can send pictures)

Back in the mid 2000's I used to ride an R6 and I took it out to the East Coast on a 11 day round trip. Obviously the R6 is not a touring or luggage friendly bike.

To prevent the soft luggage from coming into the tire and or flopping around, I removed the passenger pegs from their holders and I had my dad bend some 1/2" EMT. It wrapped around from one side to the other and the begs were resting on the pipe. Drilled the EMT and secured with the same bolts back into the peg holder.
I am pretty sure similar thing can be achieved if you get a little creative. It helps if you are or have a friend with some fabricating skills. An electrician who can bend EMT will be suffice.

Not a very good picture of the example but this is the best I got available to me right now. You scan see the silver EMT bent around the back just below the flag.

I found a local dealer that has all the new Suzuki's on sale!

Even the 800's. Discounted. Now, when they get here and OTD price will be the next big question.

AND the destination + surcharge stuff too...

Holeshot on the other side of the river, the biggest dealership in town. As far as I know, MRM doesn't carry Suzuki.

Could be. I didn't think to ask. I wouldn't buy another bike from them anyway after a sales guy refused to let me take a used 1050 for a test ride a few years back. I ended up buying a Yamaha from someplace else instead.

All new bike reviews are typically glowing.

Manufacturers fly in journalists to some nice local, pay for food and lodging. Give them a bike to flog.

Notice how all the reviews are the same area?

Cushy gig.

I miss my 2005 DL650. I should have kept it.

Twice in the last week I have started to get up, walk to the garage, and take a close look at a feature on the DL1000 I sold last week. I'll miss it too.
Off topic, but I think your DL1000 was a heck of a deal. I mean, it came with all your products on it and the price was great.
