Hi, i had my vsstrom 650 since apr 2022 and clocking 12k recently. so i did the service and according to the manual instruction but only thing difference i change the standard spark plug to irridium spark plug.

after that, when i ride on, i found the engine sound seems loud and different from before service.

it sounded like something winding or high pitch from the engine or gear box say after the speed of 80 or 90kmph.

but when i depress the cluth the sound went off and only hear engine sound.

any advise on this ? i suspected the irridium spark plug as the only thing i changed was this.

There is no way spark plugs can do that

Can you post a video ?

Did you make adjustments to the chain ?

Often chains will make a noise when under load but quieten down when the load is removed like pulling in the clutch.
thanks for your reply. i did not do anything on the chain. than i will check the chain, clean and lube it. how about the sprocket near to the gear box/engine ? do i need to remove the cover and clean as well ? so far i have not done that but usual cleaning and lubing the expose chain and back sprocket, yes
It's impossible to diagnose the issue with the information you provided.

If the 12k km services only included the iridium spark plug, and absolutely nothing else was changed, but you suddenly hear a high pitched noise when riding at speed, then something else DID change.

My money is on some part that didn't get properly reattached and is vibrating.

Oil change? Wet Clutch? Does the clutch seem to be slipping?
New spark plugs too long, pistons banging against the new plugs

That would be very bad. But a good point. Put old spark plugs back to see if noise remains.
