Years ago there was a brake warning light that had a transducer in the brake hydraulic system. Its amber lights flashed faster when the brakes were applied harder. Too bad that never was a marketing success.
I like the comment about the 5 flash per second timing. I worked in one control room where the alarm indicator flash was too slow, about the same timing as eye blinks, and it was easy to scan the alarm panel and not spot the flashing indicator.
They are selling these 'brake lights' at vololights.com. Right now they only have the carbon fibre version but I put in an advance order for the black plastic version.
I know someone who was rear ended on HWY 401 in Toronto (a multilane freeway) and I wonder if it could have been avoided with vololights. I was planning to install an Admore Light Bar that I took off my KLR650 before I sold it but I think the vololights offer additional protection for highway riding.
Sounds like a cool product but I think it is something of a crutch. As defensive riders we should be attempting to signal to their riders on the road our intentions. This includes lightly tapping the rear brake to trigger the brake light. Adjust your rear brake switch to come on before much pressure is applied to the rear caliper.
