Can anyone tell me what this dratted 'Vigl\Link' thing is which seems to keep linking certain words in my (and others) postings to other web sites?

Is there anyway I can stop it or is it now a feature of the site?

Thanks for any help.

Is anybody else getting it? I though the last problem was malware on an individual's computer and it turned out to be a site problem. Do a search on the Viglink problem but do not go to the Viglink site.

I'm not seeing anything but I use Google Chrome (both Windows and Linux) but loaded with various extensions that may alleviate issue.

Well, according to one of the security modules I run on my browser the owners are allowing a tracker on this site that points back to VigLink. The URL of the tracker is http://cdn.viglink.com/api/vglnk.js so I would suspect that this is part of the problem.

Since you are running Firefox I would STRONGLY recommend that you install the AdBlock Plus and Ghostery extensions. They are both free and stop the majority of that crap.

I'm compiling a custom list and this saves me the trouble of digging it out of IE's personal tracking list, which sometimes blocks stuff I don't want it to, when in auto mode.
Thanks.

There are actually 5 nuisance sites running scripts on this site. I only mentioned VigLink since they appear to be the ones causing problems. The other four are:

Google Adsense (Advertising)
http://partner.googleadservices.com/gampad/google_service.js

Google Analytics (Analytics)
http://www.google-analytics.com/ga.js

Scorecard Research (Tracker)
http://b.scorecardresearch.com/beacon.js

New Relic (Analytics)

Hi guys, thank you for the report. You shouldn't be seeing any highlighted words/links when you are logged in. If you can, please send me a screenshot if you are seeing these links so I can escalate it to the tech.

Thanks,
CG

They don't show up as visible links, they are buried in the page code and execute when a page is loaded. The same 5 trackers show up each time, and one of them is VigLink.com. The links to the code are as I posted above.

Found everything above except New Relic, thanks, added it.
Just about all google is blocked except maps and search.
Embeded youtube is presently blocked, gotta work on that one.
Here's just a fraction of what's blocked.

I can relate. There are some sites on your list that are also on mine. Some of them I won't allow a single packet from.

AdBlock Plus is very good. Ghostery is also very good. Between the two very little gets through that I don't want, and when it does I add it so it won't get through next time.

A coworker turned me onto a free plugin called Ghostery that pretty much stopped ads from showing up on my web pages. It also blocks trackers, beacons, and other items of the same ilk. The website is:

Ghostery

In the 30 minutes I have been using this plugin I have not seen a single ad one the side of my pages.

G26

Edit: Didn't see that Ghostery had already been mentioned. Call this a thumbs-up for Ghostery, then.
