Hello everyone, I have visited this site previously and am very impressed with it. I am curious about the v or wee stroms. I am 6'4" and 260 pounds; I fit better on the 1000 than the 650; however please correct me if I am wrong but it seems that the 650 does not have the reliability issues that the 1000 has - mainly engine stumbling issues and additional hardware to make it run right. (Don't mean to ruffle any 1000 owners feathers) Am I correct? Are there any major issues with the 650? For me, reliability is an absolute must. I see that the 650 is better on fuel - very appealing given the price of gas. Power is not everything, but perhaps the best way to know is to ride one. I don't know of any dealerships in the Tampa area that allow test rides. By the way, I have been around motorcycles for decades and cannot believe the lack of knowledge of salespeople. I get concerned when I know more about the product than someone who sells it. Is it just me, or is this how dealerships are run? Are the service departments as clueless as the sales departments? Thanks for any input and again - great site.

At 6'2" with a 36" inseam, I fit the liter bike better also. . . Had my stealer install a liter bike seat as part of our "deal".

Don't know much about the later versions but 04-05 and back liter bikes had some issues (and some owners had ZERO problems, go figure)...Clutch baskets issues, drive-ability issues and like that.

The "little" 6Fiddy has for the most part, proven to be issue-less and basically bulletproof. At 40K miles on mine I've checked the valves twice (no adjustment needed), thrown a chain and a couple of air filters at it in addition to my normal oil/filter changes. Rear tire wear is a little less on the 6Fiddy. Mileage (for me) has never really changed...45-52 mpg depending on how much time I spend with the throttle twisted.

Maybe you can find a couple of owners in your neck of the woods that would let you ride their steeds. . . .

I just bought a wee last week, I am 6ft 200 ponds and the bike is stock. I am looking to get some aftermarket gear to get a little better fit, its not to small but could use a little wiggle room since I am using it work and putting on some distant on it. I haven’t had it for even as week so I might not be the right person for feedback but you might be a little big for a 650.

I've found the Tampa area dealerships to be reasonably good. Some better than others. Suzuki of Sarasota is for sure an A lister. Spoke to a guy at West Coast off 19 in Clearwater that knew his stuff about Stroms.

I have a 07 Vee with 16,000 miles. Nothing but wear and tear items. The valve adjustment actually required adjustment on the Vee the Wee was perfect at 15,000. Recently I had to bump up the idle a little as it fell to 900. I've had both bikes and prefer the Vee for lower RPMs at 70 MPH and extra passing power. The ride quality is about the same. The Vee fights off the crosswinds a little better.

You can take my bike for a spin if you like. I live near Bloomingdale and 301.

Only difference is the seat.

I've heard of no (zero, zip) reliability issues with the Wee. Especially after the 2007 changes, which appear to have improved fuel economy by 5mpg at the expense of giving you two more plugs to change (!).

Power is not everything, but perhaps the best way to know is to ride one.
A Wee will go over 120mph. How fast do you need to go?

Sad to say, that is usually the case. The best shops are small ones where the shop owner is out there wrenching or selling on a regular basis, but in built-up areas those are increasingly being bought out by corporate chains or lack the funding to maintain their dealership status (Suzuki, for example, recently required that all their dealerships buy some very expensive computer equipment to work on their bikes).

Around here, the service manager at a local dealership said, "Balancer adjuster lever? Never heard of a problem with it. Don't worry about it." (KLR). So the guy came to me and we swapped out his OEM balancer adjuster lever for a beefier aftermarket one in my garage (I have the special tools to do it). The lever was broken, of course, as is true of at least 10% of KLR's in the wild. That's the quality of people we're dealing with at dealerships. Sad to say, if you want good people you have to pay, and neither the customers nor the dealers are willing to pay good mechanics a living wage so... best I can say is if you don't do your own service, find a small independent repair shop where the owner is a wrench.

Save the money..buy a WEE and a Tall seat.I'm 260# and have an 08 Stealth 650. No problem pulling me even with my wife in the trunk.My mpg is running 57-62.I love it.

Wow! I must first give a big thanks to everyone who responded to my questions. I was completely blown away by all the responses and even an offer to test ride the bikes. RodK thank you for your generous offer! I don't think I could go wrong with either bike judging by the abundance of support this site offers. After what I have read, I think the Wee is the way to go for what I need. Since reliability and fuel economy are top priorities, the Wee fits the bill. I realize that the Wee surrenders about 30 hp to the Vee, but a modern 650 v-twin should have enough power to satisfy me and since a Vee seat will fit the Wee, that solves the seating issue. Thanks again everyone, I may do some Wee prospecting although I am not in a big hurry. I'll keep in touch, thanks again.

You're welcome to ride my bike. All butts are different but the stock seat for the most part is good for maybe 200 miles on either bike MAX. I have the Sargeant. It's very good but I think the Russell like Ironmorph has is the way to go if you are going to ride a lot.

Here's my bike. Every year about this time, I get PO'd about the lack of free time in weather fit for human consumption and look at my motorcycle as an expensive toy I don't need. Then I look at photos of my November trip and say it's a required vacation utility.

I really do want one of those Piaggio MP 3 400s or 500s. Those could be commuter rides :)

Thanks again Rod! I'm up in the Land O' Lakes area so I'm not too far away. That is an awesome picture of your bike. I would say somewhere perhaps off the Blue Ridge parkway but I think it is closed in November. Anyway, it looks like it gets cold where that picture is taken and anywhere it gets cold is a welcome relief to the 9 month summers here in Florida. Oh yeah, I forgot about the daily rains every afternoon in the summer. Then when it clears, it feels like you are breathing under water. As far as your bike is concerned, right now I'm without a ride and I can only tell you that if you don't have to sell your bike - Don't! I drive up and down SR 54 almost daily and see groups of bikes just about everytime. There are some beautiful roads that lead up through Brooksville and even further towards the Inverness area and over to Ocala. You will kick yourself when November comes around again. Remember, there is Biketoberfest in the fall and in March is Bike Week or better known as trailer week. It is nice to ride your bike to trailer week.

I think many of the reliability issues are a result of not properly maintaining the bike, no offence to those backyard mechanics that don't trust dealers
I just don't think the average joe rider is as competent as a trained professional mechanic. yes, there were some ECU issues in the past, with the big Vee. AFIK if there are ECU problems om 06 or older, suzuki will replace it

both are as capable

if fuel economy is a concern, the Wee will save you 20%- 25% in fuel cost

I better be careful about getting too far off topic. :) Fatal Error gets fired up about that. :) (Actually, he's a wonderful fellow. I hope you can join the Florida Troopers) That photo is right on The Dragon in November while I wait for a couple HDs to get the hell down the road.

My favorite two wheeled ride is my titanium recumbent bicycle. I get up every Sat and Sun at 530 AM and go ride 40-50 miles somewhere. There isn't much of the day left by the time I get home and normally I don't feel like strapping on the armor and the brain bucket for a boiling afternoon ride before the rain.

Anyway, sorry to hear about the job thing. My employer that owns the local NBC station and newspaper would fire the bugs in the dumpsters right now. This has not been a good year.

Soooooo the Wee is a fine bike but I can't be seen at the Moto GP on a one piper. :) That's just wrong.

Here is what a russell looks like. They made it to fit my weight and seated posture. I really like it a great deal. I have yet to really ride a long day, say 1000 miler or so. My longest day was 600 miles and the seat is incredible.

I have an 05 650 and love it. I am 260 lbs and 6'4" and it hauls me and the misses around pretty well. The only thing I don't like is the seat. I got a gel seat and that was a little better but I think I may have to go for one of the custom made if I want to put lots of miles on in a single day. Maintenance has been a snap, all I have done is oil changes and chain check ups and tightening. I may actually have to replace the tires this fall so in reality this has been one great little bike that I can commute from baltimore to DC on easily. Yeah I know...two Beltways a day....I have a death wish :)
