Vee..Glee...Wee...wtf?!

I've been lurking around the forums trying to learn as much as I can, and I keep coming across various nicknames for the bikes. Of course a search for these terms just results in lots of threads that use the terms.
So: What do y'all mean when you say "Glee" or "Wee" or "Vee" or....etc?
As far as I can tell:
-Vee means the DL1000
-Wee means the DL650 (Maybe first gen?)
-Glee means a newer bike (Maybe with beak?)
-Wee2....maybe 2012-2016 DL650?

On the Goldwing forums we typically use the model, and that narrows down exactly what you're talking about. A GL1200A is an '84-87 Wing with the Aspencade package. Of course when referring to a full on touring bike we would always just say 'scooter'. On here....I haven't figured out the codes yet.
Thanks!

I does not matter, Call the vstroms what you want. I have a 2013 model. 2012-2016 were, if I m not mistaken, dubbed "Glee" which in my opinion is a stupid name. So I will not use it. I call my DL650 a Wee second generation.

"Glee" is the 2012-2016 DL 650. Greywolf so named them. Don't get your panties all excited......simply a combination of the previous generation "Wee" and the Gladius engine that was used first in the 2012 version.

You're pretty close:

-Vee means the DL1000
-Wee means the DL650 - first gen (2004-2011)
-Glee means 2nd gen (2012-2016)
-Wee2....DL650 3rd gen 2017+

Then you have the silly K(X) designations many use. I guess it's to signify the year, as in K9 is a 2009?? (Wouldn't that be a 1009??) I don't get it at all. Why save two keystrokes??
K refers to the manufacturing decade, so a K9 was manufactured in 2009.
L is the next decade, so L4 is a 2014 model.
Likewise an M2 will be a 2022 model.

Simplicity ; no confusion there, thank you.

I thought everyone accepted the name Glee for the 2nd gen 650 out of respect for Greywolf.

Yeah, there was some kickback about "Glee" at the time. Even though it kind of made sense. The TV show "GLEE" was on at the time. To say the least it had certain....Metrosexual flair to it. Some were not comfortable with that. I didn't give a damn.
But, like Tom, I prefer that If you are posting about your bike just tell us the year and DL 650/1000/1050 and we know what you have! There are variances in each model line that the year can clarify.

TIL I've been referring to my bike, a 2012 DL650, by the (kinda) wrong nickname for the 5 years I've owned it.

I always assumed 'Glee' referred to the Gladius model, probably because my Haynes manual is written for the V-Strom, SV650, and Gladius models.

Wish the "nicknames" would just go away. It's confusing and as just mentioned, often inaccurate.
Year and model makes it better and accurate.
Mines a Suzuki 650 Strom ... We're StromTroopers / StromRiders / StromPilots / PowerRangers ( Last one's the Wifes sarcastic take on things. To her Strom means Power )
Had the weirdest sense of deja vu on this post. It was like it was 2012 again, and Greywolf was still with us.

Size (Wee -v- Vee) and year are probably most important in forum discussions. However, there are important differences even within a generation especially when talking about repairs or engine mods, etc.

The Gen1 Wee is 2004-2011 is one group but the 2007-2011 motors are completely different (but not yet a Gladius motor) so I often use a Gen1A (2004-2006) and Gen1B (2007-2011) designation. The "K" and "L" designations are coming from the way Suzuki lists parts in its BOM but is really just a year code. K=200, L=201 so K7 is a 2007 and an L7 is a 2017 bike.

The full Suzuki designation for my bike is DL650AK7E33 -- where "DL650" designates a 650cc V-Strom, "A" means it includes ABS (an option in 2007/8/9 but standard an all bikes 2011+), "K7" indicates model year 2007 and E33 is a region code. In my case the E33 code is for a California bike which has extra emissions equipment. There are different codes for Europe and other regions and differences by year. For example, there was no 2010 model in the USA (bikes sold that year were 2009 or K9 models). But in Europe there was a 2010 model and included an O2 sensor that wasn't added till 2012+ is the USA.

In any case, to simplify this whole thing the OP should add the year and model Wee/Vee he has to his profile so people can see what he's got and learn which bikes are similar and ignore the rest.

Greywolf always kept a nice decoder at the bottom of his posts (and his posts were numerous!):

Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Once the OP manages to bring home one of these fine pieces of engineering he'll be sure to update with the correct terminology. :)
(Don't tell his wife, but there's a distinct possibility that 'bike' becomes plural) :D

Now see, if I'd have been able to find that thread in my search I'd have known better than to fire up the torches again. :)
