Reading some of the posts, it seems that even at this early mileage level, some riders are finding valve adjustment and sync issues. Since I am at this mileage, should I really be concerned when the maintenance schedule puts this work far out into the future?

The manual for my DL1000 calls for the first valve clearance check somewhere around 15,000 miles. I checked mine at 13,000, and 4 were marginally tight. I've heard that they're good forever after that, but I'm planning to take a look again at 30,000 - 50,000. Sync the throttle bodies whenever you feel like it. Its a good thing to have them proper. Remember, my experience is with the 1000.

Yeah, I know the manual does not call for it. I've noticed that some seem to check them early in the life of the bike. I'm trying to understand the reasoning behind that. I have no plans except to put more miles on mine.

some dl 650,s have gone over 100,000 klm s and never needed valve adjust
And it seems some come out of the factory too tight. You don't know where your bike stands until you look.
