Can anyone confirm or reject that a dl1000 2003 clutch basket will fit on my dl1000 2014 model?
I'm asking because someone here locally has a brand new 2003 basket cheap for sale 😁🙏🏻
Otherwise I'll have to go through the whole process of sending my old one to be modified...
Well, if the picture is the basket you are considering buying, that is NOT a DL 1000 clutch basket. That is an SV 1000 clutch basket.
AND....it is NOT exactly new! That has been modified already. See the bronze bushing in the center around the steel hub? Rivets have been replaced with threaded fasteners. Now it could still be new in that it started as a new basket and was modified and never installed.
I have had customers install SV 1000 clutch baskets in DL 1000's. SV's have two springs in each slot ( see the smaller internal spring ) to handle the extra torque the SV 1000 puts out. You might feel the engine power pulses a bit more, but they are not objectionable. NEVER install a DL 1000 clutch basket into an SV 1000 however.
That is a 2002-2013 direct replacement for a DL 1000! The only real difference in that one and the ones for the 2014-2018 DL 1000 is the "top plate". That is what you are looking at in the second picture. This one is scalloped around the perimeter...the 2014+ style is fully round and made of slightly thicker steel. But I would have NO issue at all running that basket in the pic in my 2014. These earlier style baskets did wear a bit faster, but should be pretty good for 12-15K miles before it starts getting a bit loose.
