I,ve been riding an 08 KLR for the the last 2 years and have loved it. My work commute however, has just increased to 90 miles per day. I have been lusting after a V-strom for some time now and the additional miles seem like a good reason to get one. My question is, which is better the 650 or the 1000?:biggrinjester: Just kidding. No, what I would like is any good info on buying a used one. Common problems, common dammage to look for, which farkels ect.. that sort thing. any advise would much appreciated.

it was a wee for me

When I was looking for a commuting bike, 120 mi round trip, I looked at the Vee and the Wee. The Vee's seem to have some rough running issues in the past. There are fixes available, and most of those fixes seem to work for the Vee riders. I was looking for fuel mileage and I did not want to buy a bike and then need to fix it for a daily ride. It will be two years in July, since I bought my new to me 07 Wee. 12k miles later I have been very happy with my choice:thumbup: I average around 45-50 MPG, and aside from oil, filter and the need to some new tires,and just a few farkles :bom_tongue3:the Wee has been a great chioce. Pick the bike that works for you, that is all that matters:yesnod:

Nothing to really look for, no inherent problems one needs to watch out for. As longs as it's been maintained for the mileage it has on it. If the overall condition reflects the price, it's hard to go wrong.
Accessories are expensive especially luggage so If you can find one with stuff added, all the better. Most used ones come some gears.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I've already decided on the big V. I had a chance to ride both last year. I liked the Wee but Im sold on the extra grunt of the big one. The Vee did seem to run rougher than the 650. I didn't know there was a problem with them though. How big of a deal is it?

Its not a big deal at all. You can take care of most of the rough running problems with the Throttle Body Sync and the Secondary Throttle plate sync. Both things will take you about 3 hours if you really take your time.

IMO, a Power Commander already installed in a used Vee would put me over the top. I think they're on the order of $300, and many will tell you it's "the" way to fix the running issues.

Aftermartket seats and windscreens would be a good selling point to me, too - provided they worked better than the stock that I'm used to.

Beyond that, it's all luggage and gizmos, IMO.
