I have found a 09 Wee with 21K miles no ABS. The bike has all the mods I would add (except cases and I have Pelicans). The price is 5K. My concern is the mileage. I plan to go on a US tour next year for 4-6 months for 20K miles. Is this a good buy or should I opt for a dealer demo.

I found a 2k miles demo with ABS with a dinged fuel tank near the fairing for 5.4K. Also a used 09 with 7k miles for 5K no ABS..

Finally I can wait for a 2012 but am not real clear on the advantages versus the 1.kk higher price.

How important is ABS?

Any advice will be very helpful.:headbang:

ABS is important to me--I sold an excellent '04 for an '07 ABS with about equal mileage but it cost me money.

No problem with that 21k.

The '12 is said to have many minor improvements---don't know if those are worth $1k, but I would and did spend that much to get ABS. I see the big advantage of ABS as a system that can match the braking to the pavement conditions foot-by-foot, something that the best rider can't do.

So, final suggestion---get ABS in the color of your choice. If it is orange or black, get the '12.

The 2012 is "better" than the earlier model, but that wasn't enough on it's own to make me move up.

Main things I've noticed so far are: better seat, better suspension, better handling, better brakes.

My previous DL didn't have ABS, so I can't tell you if the new model ABS is better - but I'm impressed with it. I havn't managed to get it to cut in on seal yet, but on gravel it worked without any problems, and the bike was a LOT more stable under heavy braking than my old DL. On gravel anyway, I'm pretty sure the ABS would beat my braking distances 9/10 times.

IF you are using it more as a sportsbike, then maybe go for the 2012.

Commuter/Tourer the older model has some plusses in that all that bulky plastic up front does provide slightly better rain and wind protection.

Decision made

I am buying a 2009 with 7k miles. Great condition in orange. OTD at 5600 seemed reasonable.

I bought a 2011 with ABS. The ABS is a good feature when you encounter slick surprises when planning on stopping. I would get the 2011 that is for sale on this forums forsale page for 6900. That is what i owe on mine still and I have less farkles. Good luck with your search.

I think that you can do a lot better than that. I have heard that used bikes are the cheapest in FL...
ABS was important to me as well and worth the premium.

I bought a like new 2009 with ABS almost a year ago with 1k miles and $1k in farkles for $6250... for your reference.

If I were to buy one today and could spend the money required for a 2012, I would. There are many small changes, like others have mentioned, that would justify the price premium. It will also be worth more in 2-3 years than MK1.
