I believe you need 20 posts or thereabouts before you can participate in the classifieds. As for the pm, check your settings. I had trouble too when I first joined. Didn’t think pm was working then went into settings I found that I didn’t have it set to view pm sent.

Yep

You must be right about the # of posts. Thanks

Correct. Those who originally set up this forum seemed to be very adamant on "No join to buy/sell".

"You must have more than 20 posts, and have been a member for 20 days, or have a $tromtrooper Membership, before posting in this section. No "Join to Sell" allowed."
Perhaps it was a tempter to get people to have a paid membership. There is also the constant struggle with spammers.
As Houstrom46 suggests go into your User Profile and go through all the messaging settings. The default settings always seem to be incorrectly set. Or try a visitor message.

This is in place to protect the community from spammers and scammers, as the post requirement gives the mods and the community a chance to review your posts.

Once you reach the threshold, you will be granted the permissions within an hour.

I understand. I literally joined to buy if I found a great bike for a reasonable price. I found one and was able to buy it through PMs. Looking forward to being a Wee rider and member of this group.

Seems like a silly policy. Number of posts does not equal a good member necessarily. I tried to respond in classifieds to buy the Corbin seat and was not allowed to. To me this seems a negative for sellers and buyers. Seller wants to sell and buyer wants to buy, but not allowed to. As a moderator you can simply delete spammers. This is how many other forums work. Most forums only let you post picture after so many posts, but don't block you from responding.

I think it a good policy and does keep lots of would be spammers at bay. Its not like moderators are getting paid and if this eliminates or lessens a dreadful repetitive task to free up some of the moderators donated time that they can do something like spend an extra 5 minutes with their dog playing catch, I'm all for it. As both a buyer and seller over 90% of the items here f/s are DL650/1000 related and the same items get posted over and over. If you miss a have to have item now wait a few weeks./months and another will be posted.

Quite a few years of evolution have gone into protecting members from the wolves that roam the internet.
Over the last 10 days, I have needed to delete 8 threads and cancel two "memberships".
With the existing rules the spammers were so very obvious. Without them, this forum would be inundated with spamvertising.

Brockie is correct. The posting requirements work, and help protect the members. Those who wish to only come to the site to buy/sell will have to prove they are contributing to the site, and that they have good intentions before being allowed to attempt to post in that area.

This gives us time to investigate members and remove anyone who seems suspicious.
