I have a 2011 Wee with 1700 miles on it. I'm having an issue with getting into first gear from neutral. On more than a few occasions the bike is not moving into gear as it should. I can give it some throttle, move the bike forward a bit, slam on the clutch, eventually it will move into first but it takes some coaxing. This is happening with some regularity although there is no apparent pattern. The bike changes gears 95% of the time and I know this happens to all bikes on occasion. Generally, giving a bike some throttle will align things and the bike shifts. This doesn't seem to be the case here. All other shifts are perfect. Any suggestions?

Sure. Mine does it all the time.

While in neutral, let the clutch out than pull it right back in. Spins things up.

Should go right into first with no issue after that.

Perhaps one of the guys on here who have forgotten more than I will ever know about this stuff can explain why it works.

Sent from my droid.

The gears just don't line up sometimes as they come to a stop so you can't get them to mesh when you try to shift. Letting the clutch out (with the motor running) as Mrzappo says, will start the gears moving relative to each other and give them a chance to mesh. You can also move the bike slightly which lets the rear wheel move the gears so they can mesh. Try to shift to 1st just before you stop when you are out on the road, holding the clutch in at a stop does no harm (to the bike) and you are ready to move in an emergency.:jawdrop:
If it is still not shifting using these methods then you need to adjust the clutch per the manual.

one of the many quirks

Mine has done it since day one. I just ease out clutch a lil to get it to do what it needs to & it goes right in. Don't know why but it hasn't hurt anything. Nature of the beast I guess.

I have a 2011 also and it has done this since day one. All comments above are correct and work. Every bike I have every owned has done this at some point - so it is not specific to the Vstrom
