Anyone have experience with TPX radar/laser detector? How does it compare to the better known detectors? Cops have been very hungry lately.

I've got one on my Strom and it works just fine. Maybe not the ultimate range you'd be getting with a high end Passport or V1 but works fine for me and has saved me a few times.

The visual alert is real nice and super bright. Works very well.

I've never installed the wireless audio alert but have it.

I run a Escort 8500 on another bike and while it is maybe a bit more sensitive it's not water proof and the visual alert (Marc Parnes) is no where near as bright as my TPX.

I've been using an Escort Passport 9500ix for the past two years, by far the best one I've ever owned (and yes, I had a V1 for a couple of years -- that thing never shut up).

What makes it great is the GPS database that essentially eliminates false alarms. When this thing goes off, you know it's real.

Granted that it takes some time to learn where the false alarms are located (it needs to store their location 3 times before it locks them out).

It also has voice alerts for red light cameras, speed cameras, and common speed traps as well as the ability to store your own warning locations. Updates are available monthly. I haven't subscribed but plan to do so.

I am too poor but the GPS Radar detector

I have an 8500 with a screamer. I believe it saves me about 1 or 2 times a year.

I would get the 9500 and an alert like HARD or radar screamer. I have it velcroed and plugged so rain or leaving its 5 sec to pop it off and slip in my pocket

I keep the detector in the tankbag, which disables laser alerts, but if you get painted with laser, it's too late anyway.

I used the HARD indicator for awhile but it eats batteries, and when they go dead, it just stops working so you're unprotected. Now I wire it into the Autocom and use the audio alerts. (be careful here, you need an isolation box or you will damage the detectors audio output driver).

I still use the old 8500x50 in the cage. It works, but is annoying like the V1.

I've used the TPX radar detector on my BMW K1200GT for 20,000 miles. I like it. In my cars I have a Valentine 1 but the TPX is more suited for riding than any of the car-purposed radar detectors. I had both the visual alert and the audio alert in my helmet. Recommended. On the Wee however I've never felt the need, I just don't find myself riding at high speed like I did on the GT.
