Retired experienced road-tripper from Toronto Canada riding DL650 looking for on-road touring companion for 2017 season. I prefer an easy pace with breaks on roads less traveled. I like big cities as much as the countryside. I also like the human diversity. Riding together is one option. Riding at our own pace, keeping in touch - covering each other - and meeting up for dinner or at the day's final destination is another. I'm fine with riding through occasional showers but prefer to rest on days with serious rain. Indoor accommodation, campgrounds or free camping all OK with me.

Other than the fact I'm in Bellingham, WA and 2500 miles away, I'm down! If you get close to Washington State, give me a buzz.....

Cheers,

Bob

Welcome aboard! What part of Toronto are you from?

I am sure some of the other Canadian's on this forum will say hello as well.

I have yet to set the date but usually we have a meet and greet in Bancroft towards the beginning of April where a decent amount of Riders show up. (I'll post the date in the new year some time.)

I wonder if something like this would be worth its own subforum. Adventure Cycling magazine has a classified section for cross country cyclists looking for traveling companions. It can be a real struggle sometimes trying to find someone who can take off the amount of time necessary for a long cross country trip (and to also find a traveling companion that's compatible enough with you that the trip won't result in chalk outlines and police tape around a campsite....).

Welcome aboard!

I'll be heading out east to Gaspé and the maritimes next summer so if you're up to it... Also if you come up to the Ottawa area, get in touch.

I'm looking at doing a 3 week run out west and back this summer. I want to at least go as far as Kelowna BC, where I have some family to visit, but I would like to dip my front tire in the Pacific if I can. I also have connections in Manitoba and Alberta, but in between that I would be camping or low budget motels if the weather sucks.

I average around 700kms/day and I try to do a decent stretch of gravel every now and then, but nothing too tough.

You'd be welcome to join me for as much or as little as you like :)

vTwinDino,
I may in fact join you for part of your trip out west. If you are going to Kelowna BC, drop down to Washington State, then take Hwy 20 over the North Cascades all the way to Mt Vernon which is I-5 and salt water. I just might meet you in Kelowna and ride down and "back home" essentially. (Kelowna to Bellingham, WA is about 360 km)
Hwy 20 over the pass is amazing...it would be a shame to get this far and not ride it. (From the east you'll hit Winthrop, WA then head west on 20.)
Stop in Westport, WA where you can drive on the beach....you literally could put your front tire in the pacific....big long sandy beach there.

What month are thinking of hitting West Coast? Consider some less traveled roads in Central or Eastern Oregon, open space, nice uncrowded 2 lane highways through interesting terrain. Very different than the Fir tree forest corridor you get in BC, Western WA and Western OR. The Cascade mountain range changes everything .....coastal wet and forested with high population centers, or out in the open, dry and hot with few folks, if East of mountains.

Feel free to PM me if you would like to follow up with any info.

vTwinDino - I too am planning to go to BC from Ontario this summer (if you mean 2017, which must be the case). I'm planning to leave in early June for a 3 weekish trip. Also thinking 700 km per day. Does any of that match you? I'm a 56 year old newly retired family man - with a non-riding (and still working) wife.

Hello fellow stromtroopers. On June 30th I will be going down south from Toronto to Deals Gap via Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm planning to leave on Friday and be back Saturday 8th. Let me know if you find that a journey to consider.

Stay vertical.

I'm doing a Lake Superior loop once my hands heal from carpal tunnel surgery next week. Drop me an email if interested.
Also I'd post this on the GTAM touring forum.

Cruising / Touring

Usual partner is son but he's got a new squeeze and a puppy coming so I'm footloose this summer and since I own the company I'm free to come and go as I see fit.
AirBnB or motel only ....
Ozarks on the wish list. More Ohio too.
Will slab to get somewhere but prefer the back roads and twists and where ever TomTom Winding Roads take me.

Do you have a SENA set?? ....I like to chat and ride when not listening to talking books.

Tried to send you a PM, but you have that feature turned off. If can get away for a week, I would love to go, but won't know until mid June.

You may like to browse through these links for some sweet places to ride in the Deals Gap area and on the way there/back:
