Do you guys remove the stock rubber pad and mount top cases with it removed? I want to attach a Pelican case, just not sure wheher to leave it on or off. It seems like pulling it off the rack, may ruin the ability to re-attach. And, maybe the pad would keep things quieter.
not sure about others, but with my GIVI top case i left the rubber pad in place. was able to mount the GIVI mounting plate to the rear rack with the rubber pad in place. not sure about the Pelican set up ...
What Yak said; comes off easily with dish soap and a little push from the underside.
If you are installing a Givi monokey mounting plate ( E528 ), I believe you must remove the rubber pad as the mounting brackets use the same holes that hold the rubber pad. I don't know about the Givi monolocks or other brands of top cases.
I removed the pad before I installed my Pelican (clone) case. I used some of the U-shapped wall brackets from Home Depot to make a standoff so that I could move the case back a few inches to give some additional space on the pillion. Worked very well.
A Caribou top case mount plate requires removal of the rubber pad.
