Top Box vibration fix?

571 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Zachary Hazard
Hi, first post on the forum and thanks for the welcome. My question is does anyone have a fix for the noise that the Suzuki top box makes? It’s driving me crazy! What is the best location for the little rubber stoppers? I feel like I’ve tried all options but maybe I’m missing something?
Thanks

I mounted a top box on top of the luggage rack and this is when I realized that anything on the tail end of the bike takes a beating, somehow any bump on the road or vibration gets amplified there. A little bit like being on a ship. The less shaking is near the middle section of it. If you are at the bow or the stern the amplitude is much worse. I did put a 3/16" mm rubber sheet between the rack and the top box on mine. It probably alleviate some of the vibration, but it is not a perfect solution.

Topboxes in general can be noisy over rougher roads. Mine is a GIVI setup. I generally apply some rubber insulator on the closing edges of the box and some extra padding on top of the rubber grommets that make contact with the base.

Have you had a look at threads like DIY Givi rubber vibration pad replacement and Replaced rubber luggage stabilizer ?

Also have a look for any play in the lid when closed. Some thin weather stip gasket to prevent the lid from possible rattle.

Check the 2 bolts that secure the rack to the bikes frame down through the tail piece.

It is common for them to break.

Okay I’ll do that. The two forward bolts that hold the box to the rack were not even bolted on when I got the bike. I bolted them down but didn’t check the rack. That might be where my problem is. Whistling noise is maddening.

Make sure you adjust the tongue that the bottom cam-over locks onto. You can slide it out so that the cam-over is tighter so the box doesn't rattle.
