1. Russell Day Long seat (easily the best thing on my list)
2. SWMotech Center stand (simplifies maintenance and so easy to use)
3. Madstad Bracket (works well with #5)
4. Givi Tanklock Tank Bag
5. Moose Racing Touring Windshield (Short money and works pretty well)

best 5 for Dl1000

I would suggest these 5 in priority order:
1) the best GPS that you can afford, designed for a motorcycle
2) centre stand
3) huge colossal luggage cases (top case, tank bag, side cases, waterproof duffle bag)
4) Sargent seat
5) 17/43 sprockets

My list of the first 5 farkles would be based on the basic maintenance, protection,
and the "see and be seen" advice posts here..

1. Centerstand (for better parking options and maintenance)
2. Engine Guard (better protection if you drop it)
3. Skid Plate (to protect the underbelly, oil filter, and exhaust)
4. Extra LED lights (to be seen better, for visibility)
5. Mirror extensions (to see: I needed them to see past my shoulders).

farkles

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful, but from a maintenance standpoint on a 2012 and earlier DL1000:

1. series R/R install

2. Glue your rotor magnets with JB Weld

3. Werks clutch basket

4.HI 4 headlight relay

5. External fuel filter mod

6. Rear axle spacer

I know, that's 6, you are now entitled to club me like a baby seal...

(which is a really bad thing)

Okay, I've read through all ten pages. Lots of great ideas there! I'm new to VStroms, and I thought it might be helpful if you knew which one I have (2014 DL1000 ADV). My top picks:

1. Center-stand
2. New Horn (even a cheap Freeway Blaster car horn is a huge improvement!)
3. Better lights (I don't think I can fit an HID kit in that tiny dash). I would love some auxiliary lights for the crash bars. I was hoping this thread would give me some pointers on what works well for others.
4. Top Case (I bought Givi 52L monokey with luggage rack, and put a 12V power outlet in it for charging stuff)
5. Back Off Brake Light Flasher (easy install)

So, I'm still looking for suggestions for auxiliary driving/fog lights. I don't want to spend $600 for OEM, but something more affordable and reliable would be great. Links for lights, mounts and switches would be awesome!

All in one kit for 2014 and newer DL1000
Get the Vee2 light bar, wiring harness, and pair of LEDs lights above all for just $162.00.

I have really liked my Madstad bracket and tall shield, and my Adventuretech fork brace, as well as my Rox risers, but the two things I want and will try to install this year: A Rostra electronic cruise control and a Spencer seat mod, and maybe a series regulator.
