The mount/charger adaptor for my TT_R2 does not seem to keep my GPS charged. This is the second one i have tried. Has anyone tried wiring a TT_R2 directly using a cigarette lighter charger. If so what did they have to modify if anything. I know the TT_R2 cannot accept more then 5V+/- so what ever power that comes of the bike needs to be regulated.

Any inputs or experiences to share?

Hi

I am on my 2nd unit as well, the first lasted 46,000km, this one is up to 18,000km now, so I hope it does better.

I had also thought about a direct wire, but as you say you need 5v. Well, that is easy, go to a shop that sells iPods or mp3 players and get a 12V cig lighter plug in of one of these. It will have a USB type output usually. Then it is just a matter of working out which two pins on the back of the rider is used for power.

That I cannot help you with at this stage, but maybe if you contacted TT support, they may give you a pin out diagram.

Other than that, I guess a new mount is on the cards. How much are they in the states? Mine cost approx $200AU including shipping.

Cheers

One thing I suggest to do is look at the bottom of the mount. In front at the bottom on each side you will see two small stainless pins. These are what the bracket pivots around when you click the unit in place. There are two small springs behind this bit to add pressure for connection.

Well, the pins fall out, so grab some glue, or just some finger nail polish and put a dab on the ends. I lost one which caused no end of dramas and the ultimate failure of the device.

Since the power to the unit is regulated through the mount, the only relatively easy way to do it is to use connector that the home charger uses and regulate the power to it using something like this

I'm not sure it would work...and your unit would no longer be weatherproof. But as far as I can see, it's the only easy solution since dealing with the mount connector pins would be pain in the a$$
Also, I checked the voltage to the connector pics on the mount and it seems that the 1st pin on the left is power.
