I bought a nicely farkled 2012 DL650 a couple of years back and it has been a good reliable and comfortable bike. I don't own a car and use the bike every weekend to travel to visit my family or my partner. Both are located 2 or 3 hours of freeway riding from where I live. So the bulk of my riding is sitting at 110 km/h on the freeway. Plus I do regular long distance touring jaunts. Very minimal city riding as I live in a rural part of Australia. I have been wondering if a 2015 DL1000 would be a worthwhile upgrade for my mostly freeway and country road riding requirements. I guess I would clock up about 20000 km per year on a bike. I have also been looking into other options also such as an R1200GS or a Triumph Tiger 1050. Just seeking a bike which would purr along happily for hours on the freeway and do good solid days of blacktop touring. It seems the more I read about the 2014/15 DL1000's, the more I hear about engine issues affecting quite a few owner such as the idle knocking issue and ECU issues. Is it worthwhile looking seriously at upgrading to a Vee2 or is it worth sticking with the DL650 for a while yet until Suzuki fine-tune the identified Vee2 engine issues ? Thanks to all of the advice provided by the regulars on this forum, I have been a long time lurker and really appreciate the wisdom I have gained from the Strom community on here.
