Hi everyone

Apologies for the naive question but are there any tips on installing the GIVI PR3112 Radiator Guard on mt 2022 Vstrom 650 XT?

Instructions seem simple enough but there appear very little room to work? Do you remove fairings or any other plastics? Do you pre assemble?

Any assistance appreciated

Cheers

I fitted this to my bike, was very easy and done quickly without removing any of the fairings. The plastics at each side of the radiator when you are placing one side into sit flush against the radiator just have someone else gently pull back a little and it slips right into place. By far my favourite guard due to its mesh like qualities.
A bit fiddly, make sure you have some foam spacer strips with it, to stick on the back of the guard before you fit it, so it isn't in contact with the radiator, they stop it vibrating on the Rad, I have known one or two to rub over a period of time and cause a leak, My R&G mesh guard came with them, and easy to fit, if yours has no foam spacers, stick on door draught excluder foam will do the job, if you can still get the plastic clips in

What, you don't have four hands?

I did it without removing any fairing parts, but the next time I did remove the fairing, I fixed the clip alignment. It was very difficult to align the clips in the limited space available for my person.

Thanks. I'll try that. I have all the foam spacer strips in place and from your message I can guess the clips are in place and tightened and then it is a case of clipping it over the radiator with some assistance if possible :)

Thanks for the advice, guys! I did find an extra set of hands and we did choose to remove the side fairings in order to fit it correctly with the clips in the correct positions.

Another job completed :)

When you removed those inside fairing pieces, how many screws were in each? I removed 2 screws from mine on one side but still couldn't get it off. Either there's a 3rd screw or I just couldn't figure out how the clip held it on. I didn;t want to risk breaking it. Mine is also a 2022 650.

I would strongly recommend buying a shop manual (the Haynes are adequate and not very expensive). After doing it a few times, I think the fairing on the Gen 3 is actually a lot easier to remove than my Gen 1's was, but it was not at all intuitive (nor would it be particularly easy to explain here, I think). You'll want the walkthroughs the first couple of times you do it. It is very easy to break clips and mounts if you're not sure what direction to push or twist.

Just my humble opinion.

The latest edition they have covers the 2016-2019 DL 650. Are there so many differences between 2019 and 2022 that I should wait for a newer edition? Or do you think the differences are insignificant?

The 2019 and your '22 are both Gen 3, and there have been no significant changes. I have that same manual for my '21.

I just purchased the "Bundle" which is a printed book to be mailed and online access. I'm looking at the online manual now. Thanks for the advice

Cool. I'll be interested in how you like the online version. I haven't used it.

Have fun!

Online version is spot on for looking at the wiring diagrams (as its in one piece) and flicking through, although the website sometimes glitches out and thinks you're looking at a preview...
