Finally got around to practicing what I preach. Out with the tools and tightened up any loose fittings, nuts and bolts. I must say that Suzuki builds a tighter bike than years ago, very few things were in need of snugging up. I also raised the fork tubes and was tightening the left side when I heard a SNAPPING sound. Oh my ! Only said one word to myself, it wasn't nice. Luck was with me, a 10 MM Sears socket finally decided to retire after years of abuse. Gotta love that warranty. Now waiting for side cases before I really get into it and finish the wiring while I'm at it.
The new owners check list was quite a help and a very good starting place. Wrench On.

Water Warrior,

What kind of sidecases did you decide on? When you get those on I'd like to see some pics. Not sure if you have some posted on here or not, but you have so many darn posts it would take me a week to run them down! :wink: Good luck and it is true - for tools Sears is the place!

Stlrmike, I have a lot of posts cause I'm retired and have too much time for a change. Besides I was a writer in one of my other lives. As for bags I decided on Shad. Still waiting for the side cases and brackets. Local dealer is Yamaha and good to work with. Got Givi engine bars there too. Once I get the side cases I will know if I need to reposition the rear signals. The Shad side brackets might even come with new signals. It is a crapshoot depending on what bike you have.
As for pics....someday. Have new digital in box and will stay there until Wee hits the road all dressed up. Then sunshine and pics.
Oh, one reason for Shad luggage, the price. cheaper than Givi, Suzuki and Kappa. I inspected the top box at the dealer and am satisfied with the quality but actual use and time will tell. Better go before I get on a roll. Ride On.

Water, you had a socket break? I have a set of sockets that I've used for probably almost 30 years since a kid, and especially a lot of use from the 10mm socket, and never had one break.

Have you figured out how to get to the rear exhaust bolts? I can't get a tool to them with any leverage. I want to tighten them but can't figure out how!

ChrisW123, it was trully an abused socket. As for rear exhaust bolts good luck. After finding the front cylinder bolts tight I searched for a way to the rear. Snuck in from the left side of the bike with the allen wrench but couldn't really accomplish much. So now I'm thinking it will be audible if it comes undone. Either that or dismantel the bike and I am not going there. Wrench On.

Well then, I look forward to pics at a later date and time. I don't know anything about the Shad sidecases unless they are like the Pelican ones??

On another note, I ordered a tank bra for my Wee, but after it came in and I brought it home I didn't really like the look. I know, would have been easier to figure that out before the purchase. :oops: Anyway, I will probably post it in the classifieds some day, but if you were thinking of getting one don't make my mistake!

Also, picked up a Joe Rocket Manta tank bag and I really like it. I can't handle the tank bags that look large enough to stuff Jimmy Hoffa in. How do people see there gauges, GPS, etc? If you are looking for a magnetic tank bag that will hold your phone, keys, and a few other smaller items then I highly recommend this one. My dealer had them for $39.99 and I also see them on Ebay for the same price.

Stlrmike, the Shad luggage is much the same size and design as fore-mentioned other products. I will have 42 liter side cases and a 46 liter top case. Should be plenty wide on the road too. I figure with enough lites and reflective tape cages will steer around me. Here's hoping cause I don't do pain very well anymore.
I am on the fence with a tank bra. Might someday if only to keep a cool tank of gas away from the thighs. It might be more trouble than it's worth though. Get some dirt or grit under it and off comes your shiny paint job. On the plus side, it would cover that Big Ugly F------ Factory sticker. A BUFF. Air force guys will get that one. BUFF's were B-52's.....Fly On, er, Ride ON.

An alternative to the tank bra:
There is a company around here called Chip-guard and you probably have similar near you. They sell/install transparent plastic film to protect from scratches and such. Most of their work is automotive, to protect front bumpers, headlights and hood edges. I had the film installed on my old bike, a strip up the centre of the gas tank to protect from my magnetic tank bag and a panel on either side of the tank to protect the paint from abrasion from my knees. You can hardy see its there and it works really well.

I worried about that dirt and grit too. And as much rain as I get it would probably be off, more than on!

I totally forgot about that stuff. It is a static sticker, isn't it? That would be a lot better idea for me. I could still see the paint color and it would seal a lot better to the surface than the tank bra. Thanks Heavy.

Far out ! Another farkle to lust over. Today I got confirmation that my gel seat is on back-order. It is slowly coming together. It is also +16 C and I am at this keyboard. What is wrong here ?

Geez Water Warrior, you are going to have a completely different bike by the time you are finished.

+16 C, that's like 60-61 degrees right? Sorry, some of us Yanks are stuck on fahrenheit!

Yup, about 60 F. But I am old enough that I still can't stop thinking in MPH. Thanks to some really stupid politicians a lot of small business type folks went bankrupt trying to convert to metric. Politicians decided metric was a good thing but our biggest trading partner was not in the metric system. Go figure ? Oh I feel a rant coming on now. Later.
