Yes I did do a search but came up relatively dry. The SO wants to try a throttle lock on her M-50 Suzuki. An electronic cruise control is out of the question as far as she is concerned. So what would be a decent throttle lock that works reliably and I won't need to remove the grip to install it ??
Vista Cruiser makes a universal unit that might work well. Having no experience with TLs I am looking for the Good, the Bad and the Affordable.
Thanks in advance for any info, opinions and dire warnings.

I like the $5 throttle rocker design. Just shaped plastic that goes around the grip and will lock when pushed down. You can rotate it up and leave it sitting below the grip when not in use.

You may need to shorten it to clear the brake lever - and they have got caught in jackets etc and caused problems. Personally I've had no problems and it's great on long hauls on the slab. Cheap, reliable, simple install.

I have the Kaoko, and I think that's about as good as it gets for a mechanical throttle lock, but in practice I rarely use it.

Throttle locks have limited utility because they are not true "cruise controls"; you still have to make constant manual adjustments for wind and grade. Ergo, I only find it useful where those factors are constant for long periods of time, which means nowhere in Washington. :) I did use it quite a bit in the open West (Wyoming, Montana, the Dakotas), which are flat and have steady wind.

What I do use the Kaoko for routinely is adding a smidge of friction to the throttle grip, which makes it far more civilized on minor bumps. It's adjusted just firm enough to allow the throttle to snap back reliably, and left alone. There are much cheaper ways to get that particular feature, though.

In practice, what I actually use most of the time for speed control is a Crampbuster/Throttle Rocker device. Those things are golden. Not only reduces hand stress, but also makes it much easier to make fine throttle adjustments with this poor-resolution FI system.

Thanks a bunch for the info and suggestions. I will search the suggested makes and Lynda can make the decision. She is riding across the prairies shortly and needs some hand relief for short periods.

If she's riding through Saskatchewan and Manitoba, a throttle lock will show its value. Holy crap, that was a lot of straight and flat. Even if you don't use it for long periods, it's worth it just to be able to let go of the throttle to stretch and shake out that hand once an hour on that endless 2-lane. :mrgreen:

A decision has been made. Lynda opted for the Vista Cruise throttle lock. Now I have to figure out how to work around the heated grip wiring. Love a challenge.
