I've had a 650 and wish I'd never sold it. Now if I'm getting back into one, would like it to be the 1000.

I've heard pre-2006 had some issues and that it's best to get 2007 or later if possible. Thus far I've made it a point to avoid anything pre 2007. Any opinions?

What are the issues on the older DL1000? I need to know so I can tell my 03 about them, it is dropping the ball on these problems!

Fuel injection problems is what I've read. Rough idling at low rpms and even occasional backfiring & stalling. I ain't dis'in ur ride, just askin peeps opinions.

20K miles and not one of the issues you mention. I must have a good one. Mine did get the PCIII when new.

I've heard there was a change in the ECU from 32 to 64-bit in 2005 that solved some FI issues.

Some models are said to have "clutch judder" issues, but I've never been able to figure out which ones or why.

Throttle Position Sensors seem to fail more often than they should, but they're cheap to replace and the new ones seem to solve the issue.

The worst part about the Vee is it won't give you any reason to get a new bike, so you'll be stuck with it for years.

The new 2012 Adventure has got me very interested.
I currently own three bikes, one of which is an 06 SV1000S.
Which uses the same motor tweaked differently than the DL1000.
I have put nearly 20k on the SV truly love the bike and the motor that powers it.

From skimming this forum a little I see the word chudder and noise in regard to the DL1000. What's up with that? How and why the DL1000 have those "issues". Are they subjected descriptions of the bikes nature. For what it is I would expect it to be a nearly perfect machine.

Under certain rpm and torque conditions I hear the gear driven valve train. But nothing that bothers me. It's the motor, ergo's and price that draws me towards the new DL. Sure some more expensive bikes have other features but I can so far live without them. Since ABS is mandatory in some European countries it might be offered in the near future? I would be willing to sell two bikes and replace with the one DL1000.
Overall Do you DL1000 owners like your bikes or what?

Now I've posted I see post no. 5 and it has some input to my inquiry.

Me and my pal both have the 03 DL1000 and I thought I had the chudder because I get a sort of vibration at a certain throttle and load. He picked his up about 2 months back and we swapped bikes and I was FREAKING AMAZED at the wild sounds and vibrations coming out of his bike! My bike is not the chudder variant! His..... wow... his is! It is the most noticable thing about riding his bike... from a stand point of both sounds and feelings. You can not miss it, it feels like the bike is coming apart, broke, and about to self destruct. Mine is a minor feeling that never really bothered me. Nothing like his. His has less miles than mine, but mine is, by a huge margin, the smoother of the two.

I bought an '07 Vee and it has been perfect. It got a little extra attention at the time it was set up at the shop the day I bought it--someone there was able to 'flash' the ECU and make it run a little richer than it was as shipped (this is what I was told) and it has been running absolutely perfect for over 20,000mi. It hasn't needed a lightbulb or ANYTHING since new except tires and regular maintenance. This thing is utterly reliable and comfortable. I put on a larger windshield and my friends call it my Goldwing--Hah ha.
It handles extremely well--very secure in hard cornering, very willing to change lines in a curve--I love it!
For those who say its odd looking--its looks grow on you and by now I think it is one of the most beautiful bikes on the road.

I love my 07. If you want the power, there is no replacement for displacement. I have 61,000 miles on my Vee.

From 0 to 37,000 it was my brothers. He replaced a clutch slave cylinder around 25,000. You would not need to do that to a wee, it does not have a hydraulic clutch.

At 45,000 or so I thought my TPS was bad, its a cheap part by I am even cheaper. I just reset the sensor, done, no more issue.
At 50,000 my fuel filter clogged, I replaced it myself. Total PIA.
Like all vees I have heard of it has the two warts...

1) The bike was too lean and I had the ECM flashed. Runs absolutely fantastic now both at high RPM and more importantly at low rpm.
2) The clutch makes a little noise at idle when the lever is out in neutral. No chudder that I can feel unless I deliberately lug the engine in the wrong rpm range. may fix this one day, if the clutch starts to slip and I am in there anyway.

The bike has been fed a steady diet of synthetic oil and burns almost none between changes. It is as reliable as a hammer.

If doing a little tinkering bothers you...buy a wee. But you can not remap 30 horsepower into one.

DL 1000

In 04` Suzuki changed from 16 to 32 bit processor which makes it easier to plug in th SV1000 engine when the madness strikes !!!!
