Test rode a 2015 650 in Daytona at the speedway last weekend. Going back this Friday with the wife to try it two up.

Engine/handing/comfort got A+ from first test ride. This could be the one. -Scott

Good luck, I think the same thing but (here in CT), a test ride has not been in the cards...

Hopefully next week.

"with around 60 h.p. on tap, 650s are just powerful enough to be fun for a solo rider, but add a passenger and /or luggage and they fall flat. oh, they'll still haul you uphill, and accelerate you to freeway speeds; it just takes longer - plan your passes accordingly". .....depends on the size of your passsenger!

I was surprised how responsive my DL650XT was with pillion - wanted a bike that was light and good fun for solo playing and powerful enough to enjoy a spot of two-up touring. The 650 does both. I traded a R1200R for mine, have no regrets - wife finds the V Strom much more comfy and doesn't get so scared when I move out to overtake! Yes, you sacrifice some two-up torque and acceleration, but the overall riding experience, solo or two-up, is better IMHO. It's a great all purpose bike.

A passenger that gets scared is a terrible risk. If the passenger is not more than comfortable and at ease all sorts of things can go wrong. Not leaning with the rider when necessary is one. I saw a situation where evasive action was needed, but the passenger would not lean over with the rider and they did not avoid the obstacle... a van. It was clear as day. The biker driving went to lean and the passenger tensed up and tried to stay vertical..... I just saw it coming .... they hit the corner of the van. Passenger flew into oncoming lane, but was very very lucky.

Also not too good losing torque and acceleration when it comes to overtaking and generally riding in traffic. However passenger confidence trumps that.

That said I decided quite a while ago not to ever carry passengers on a motorcycle. Puts both at to high of a risk.
IMO the ladies should have their own bike. They actually make great riders.

So to the OP my suggestion is forget the 2015 and get couple of bikes. One for you and one for your wife.
2 riders ..... 4 wheels and loads of gear ;)
And as long as you can keep up ride at her pace ;)

I taught a girl to ride years ago... she turned out to be one hell of a rider. She was the quest sweetest looking girl...
all flowers and straw hats.. folk music... beeding... ballet.... etc et... It was funny to see her effortlessly smoke all the
hard asses out there.

Scott, the bike's suspension set up matters. When you take that 2-up test ride, twist the rear preload knob all the way to the max. We don't know how much you and your pax weigh, but just set the rear preload all the way. After you buy you can get more precise.
