I rode about 25 miles with temps in the 30's this morning. The 'smack in your face' reality of less time on the bike is bumming me out. It's my first year with a motorcycle and I'm crazy in love. Rain or shine I can't stay off this thing. I don't mind the cold but snow will surely park the bike...What am I going to do? This addiction has control of me and I don't know if the weather permitting, few times I will be able to get out and ride during the Winter will ease my pain.

How do you guys cope?

I ride into the teens. If road is dry...I ride.

Best advice...Gerbings heated gear and snowmobile mittens.

There is only two conditions that I pull off the road for. Ice on the road and lightening striking near. Other than that my limitation is my health (I am in bad health) and it can cancel a ride any time of the year.

I feel ya. We purchased our 03 V late in the riding season here in Idaho, and the mornings are getting pretty chilly. On top of that, we may be relocating, putting me another 30 minutes away from work, which is gonna hurt, even with heated grips and a huge windscreen...

Here's to the riding season, may she last just a bit longer ;)

Yes, I feel y'alls pain. Temps are in the mid 70's here in the morning ( burrrrrr ) and the other day I had to leave the bike home for safety....58 degrees. Man coulda froze to death in that weather........

The thought scares me. I love ice driving in my car, makes for entertainment wherever I go (local roundabout is an awesome place to watch for Cali, TX, AZ license plates in winter), but on a bike I'd be horrendously scared, I think.

I plan on it, eventually. I'm from California originally, I'm just up in Idaho for school :( But it does make for a fantastic summer riding season!

When I was young I had to commute with a 250 Suzi 2 stroke 45 miles each way.

I remember not feeling warm until lunch

Electrics are the answer also a turtle fur neck covering. I had the idea of making a neck/lower helmet shield that would velcro to the bottom of the helmet then drape down like a beard.

Got salt to rub that in with? :biggrinjester:
Good for you, man. I would probably sell my cool cage if I lived in that climate.

I've seen enough of your posts on this forum...(I don't feel deficient in the area, but you sir need a wheelbarrow to hall your 'twins' in).

I'm kind of surprised by all the heated gear posts. Good outdoorsman gear (ice fishing stuff) keeps the body plenty warm for me. The hands are the limiting factor for long distance in cool weather.

I don't like big mittens...the reduction in feel and bulk is just not right for me. The Olympia windtex gloves seem to be the best compromise...my hands were toasty when I finished the ride this am in the high 30's and I don't have heated grips. I don't have any intentions to ride in below freezing conditions due to the high possibility of low traction and I'm not sure how long the gloves will keep the hands nimble in the low 30's but I will find that answer soon enough .

Be safe.

I used to use heated gear but then discovered fleece. For the last few winters I stopped using my electric after I got fleece and have ridden in temps in single digit f temperatures (-16 c)

I blocked of the hand guards with Warhammer's extensions and have heated grips, use Aerostich Fleace pants and some insulated ski-wear under my Roadcrafter.

Having said all that, i was in 100 degree weather (peaked at 120f in Death Valley) a few days ago, so riding today in temps below 50f felt cold.
