I had the afternoon of work so arranged with my local Triumph dealer for test rides on the Tiger 800, Tiger 800XC and 1200 Explorer.

The standard Tiger 800 is very much a road bike, quite stiff, fantastic motor,k and good handling i liked it a lot.

The Tiger 800XC was really good bigger front wheel, longer travel suspension, and a slightly more relaxed riding position. I have ridden quite a few bikes recently and when it comes to change time the Tiger 800XC and Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 are at the moment top of the list.

The 1200 Explorer was disappointing great engine, and one of the best gearboxes and clutches i have ever used, but to me it felt a bit heavy and boring after the 800,s. I also could not get on with the ergonomics, i did not find it very comfy, whereas the 800,s were very comfortable.

I had a 2 hour test rides on each bike !!!!!! so it was a very good day.

That's some very interesting feedback.

I sat on the Explorer at the local MC show and it "seemed" pretty comfy.

I have ridden the 800XC once and the Tenere 3x now. I like the Tenere better than the 800XC overall.

The ergos on the 800XC didn't suit me that well, mostly due to high footpegs. Some say if you pull the rubber part out it's more reasonable.

I thought the 800 motor was very nice though. Triumph builds some really sweet triples that's for dang sure.

I plan to ride the Explorer when I can find a demo one here in SoCal.
