Remapping and cams would take care of that. Look what BMW did with the 1000RR when they came up with the 1000XR although it is hard to duplicate the low down grunt of a VTwin.

Rod
Not difficult at all. Change the crank so it's a pair of twins.

Don't all engines have a vulnerable underbelly without a skid plate installed?
Ha, good point...my bad....what I meant was dry sump vs wet sump.

marcham, even though it won't hurt my credit, I refuse to take a hit on my credit unless I am actually going to make a purchase. I do understand the Dealer dilemma, but it's a cost of doing business and it's why we pay more at a big dealer with a lot of overhead. The sticker on the '15 Adventure XT was $10,999. I mentioned that I had seen many advertised in the $8's they said Suzuki had a $1500 discount a couple of months ago that expired.

At Triumph, they pulled a brand new XC off the show room floor and said have at it. To be honest, it would be my first new bike since '79 and I am seriously considering it. The hassle and the price has me looking for used bikes, so maybe I'm better off there anyway.

On another note, has anyone here done a Demo Day and are they a canned ride(escorted) on pavement? In other words am I going to be able to do any off pavement stuff on a DL?

Just did a Suzuki and Yamaha demo at the Romney WV rally over the weekend, and yes all of the rides are one route and are escorted. You would have to rent a bike in order to ride it how you want to, big dealer where I live has that option. So many nice used Stroms here for sale, well maintained and lots of farkles........go for it!!! :wink2:

Ahhh, yes, if I could rent an XT for a day I would certainly do it. What dealer are you referring too...I'll give them a call.

Don't think that Romney does rental rides, and the local dealer I have that does so is very far away from you here in OHIO. Not all bikes are in the riding fleet anyways, this dealership sells "every manufacturer" other than HD. I am betting you would really like the XT, what a gem of an engine and the bike overall is just a great platform and a hoot to ride.

I have one and live in NJ you're more than welcome to ride. I'll be at Big B's in September for his rally, maybe you can join us?
I appreciate the offer, but I am riding out to Moab in Sept. And Moab is why I am considering an upgrade to my '07.

Is this your first new motorcycle? Unlike cars, it's not unusual for dealers to not allow demo rides due to obvious factors (joy rides, drops, ...) which is why most manufacturers have a test ride road show in the summer which allows you to try a "beater" demo in a controlled setting. By allowing you to make an offer conditional to a test ride it ensures the dealer that you are serious and you'll probably take it. Also a lot of bikes on the floor may be assembled but may not be ride ready... Requiring a PDI.

I fail to see how this is Suzuki's fault. So did you try it? It sounds like it was risk free for you and they had the bikes you are interested in.

I'd never allow a test drive on a used bike I'm selling, but I will hold an envelope with the required cash if someone wants to confirm it's working ok.

I think it's unusual to have a dealer request financing and deposit before being allowed a test ride. In my experience dealers either say they don't offer a demo, or make it easy (copy of DL and sign waiver).

Your experience is different?

And it seems the dealer didn't mention this involving process on the phone, waiting until after the rider got there to inform, which would annoy me too.

That's it, keep it simple, we will add anything else ourselves that we feel we must have, like cruise control, kill switch for the ABS, aux lighting, etc.
I actually don't have complaints about everything you mentioned on the Strom, but envy my friend's electronic cruise control.

Cruise Control ( real, not throttle locks) can be a game changer. Especially on your main bike and that bike makes some trips. You don't think you really need it. You can get by without it. But once you own a bike with it, either factory or aftermarket, you will NOT be satisfied with a bike for touring without it.

I actually got a response from the mother ship. Suzuki sent a letter thanking me for the suggestion(s) and that "these motorcycles are manufactured with regard to the general population for the size of the bike." They also made a note of the information I provided for their records...ie: the round file.

Hey, at least they are honest, eh?
