I ordered a tank bra for my Wee to protect the rear of the tank from scratches caused by jacket/belt buckles, etc. Before it arrived I also bought a Manta tank bag to put small stuff in. The tank bag has a flap and magnet that also protects the rear of the tank. Never used a tank bag before and I have two questions:

1. Will the magnets in the tank bag damage the paint over time, or will a simple frequent waxing of the tank prevent that?

2. Is it likely that the rear magnet on the tank bag will stick to the tank through the bra.

Not sure I even want to install the bra at this point, seems like the tank bag will do pretty much the same thing.

I've had my Manta Tank bag for about 1 year, and there hasn't been any damage to the paint at all. I don't think the Magnetic field will cause any problems, just make sure you don't get any pieces of metal on the bottom of the magnet as this will scratch the paint.

The magnets are very strong so they should stick through the tank bra. You don't have to extend the tail section of the bag (I don't) just leave it folded up under the bag. The bag still holds tight never had a problem with it coming loose.

Hope this helps.

It depends on the type of material used on the bottom of the bag. I had an older magnetic tank bag with the bottom piece a rough non-slip neoprene type material. I used it on a cross country ride. When I arrived home and was cleaning my bike I noticed abrasions in the paint where each of the magnets were. Fortunately, I was able to get rub them out with some uber fine rubbing compound and the bag went in the garbage. I purchased a Cortech tank bag with a soft neoprene bottom and have used it for a year on two if my bikes with no damage to the paint.

I had a Manta on my old Red Strom for almost 2 years with no issues. It's a great little bag. I've read that if you have a metallic paint that you don't want to keep a magnetic bag on all the time. You should definitely get a good coat of wax on before using the bag just for some extra protection. I also bought a bra and never used it cause the lower magnet covered the tank just fine, and I was worried that leaving a bra on all the time would damage the paint.

Where can one buy a tank bra for the Strom? I tried to find one for my GS before selling it but could never locate a source.

It's a stock Suzuki item. Ask your local dealer or check out Oneida Suzuki online. See the link below...

And by the way, both the tank bag and the tank bra will scratch the paint if you don't keep dirt and grit from between the bag/bra and the paint. Also, with magnetic bags be careful to check the magnets haven't picked up small metal particles.

I've also heard of folks buying some of the clear plastic "tank protector" to protect your paint from tank bags, etc, but I've never used it. Check out the following link;

Hope this helps.

Tank bra

I just took possession of an 09 DL1000 and was given one of the bra's that you show on your bike. The guy did not know how it went on and I am also not sure, could you give me a hint. Also I see you are in Marrietta, I am in Lawrenceville, If it would be easier for you to show me, we could meet somewhere. Thanks

I don't have the time at the moment but will try to put a step by step and get back to you. PM me an email and I'll try to get it to you tonight sometime. It really is simple but there are a few things that need to be loosened to install it.
