Riding up to Atlanta from Tampa, FL and would like to avoid the I-75 "Supersleeper". Any suggestions of a good route to take? Since my final destination is Hampton (so. of Atlanta), I was thinking of jumping on US41 to Lake City, then US441 to Douglas cutting across to US19 up to ATL.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

Take as many back roads as time will allow. 441 is four lane in many places. If you come anywhere close to Macon GA, send me a PM and I can show you some local roads.

I as a rule stay away from N-S routes in the south that end in a 1, they seem to be the most busy and built up.

I also try for tertiary (3rd level) roads.
If interstates are primary and roads like 441 or 41 or 19 are secondary, 2 lane tertiary (3rd level) roads are the next ones down.

I also try to lay out ones that go thru the least amount of towns.
Throwing together as many of those 3rd level roads as you can and still generally make your way to the destination is the best way to travel IMO.

I wish I could give you some real world ideas on your route, but I go N-S a bit further to the west than what you are planning.
