Hey evergone!

So I picked up a new 2018 DL1000 last weekend and had a great time breaking her in. Now, I wasn't expecting much from the Battle Wings but I have to admit they did much better than I expected. However, I did get road noise and feel that I didn't care for.

My riding style is 3-500 mile days, combination of slab and twisties, aggressive in the corners, zero off road and no long commutes. My last 3 sets on my previous bike were Dunlop Roadsmarts and they did pretty well. I'd like to hear what everyone here is using that has similar riding style and what feedback they get from their tires on the vstrom. Looking for good grip and decent tire life.

Metzler Tourance Next. Sticky and agile. Like you, lots of long day trips with aggressive cornering, little to no off road. Front has 9400 miles on it and worn evenly, replaced because of upcoming trip. It probably would have gone another 1000 miles, but not 1800 or 2000 safely. Rear has 7000 miles on it, and is starting to have a flat spot in the center, but will easily go another 3000. This is on a 650, the liter bike will probably eat tires faster.

I've never had a tire wear as well as the Anakee 3 but OMG are they loud!. I have 3,000 miles on them and they are still over 80%. The also perform well in the wet and twisty roads.

Previous to there were Metzler Torrance Nexts that were shot front and rear at 5,000 miles.


BMW R1200GS with servo brakes. Breathe on the lever and the bike comes to a screaming halt. This extreme braking ability also eats tires.


To the OP I suggest you buy round black tires in the right size for you wheels. What we suggest is moot

I have Michelin Road 5 Trails on my 2016. Probably the best tyres I have ever had on a bike wet or dry. I also have them on my X-Adv with the same results.

A previous favourite on my former Triumph 1200 Explorer was Dunlop Trailsmarts. Also excellent tyres but perhaps slightly shaded by the Michelins.

I ride briskly and like to lean a bike well over with confidence.

Picked up a 2009 650 Wee a month back. Has newish Battlewings. Are these a decent tire? So far they are doing what I want in the corners and straights. No off-road yet and I have another bike for that.

I have been running Battlewings (BW501/502) since wearing out the old stock Trailwings way back when. I have run numerous sets.

I have been getting 14,800 to 17,200 miles on the front and 9,300 to 11,800 miles on the rear Battlewings. I do end up changing a little early (about 2mm left) due to upcoming long distant trips.

I like them and feel they are a good 90/10 tire (imho), but I am currently trying the new Michelin Anakee Adventures. I hope to be doing a little more gravel and dirt on a trip this fall.

If I can get anywhere near this mileage on my battlewings I may just deal with the road noise and feel I get from them and buy another set. Aside from that, dry grip is great. I have yet to test them out in the rain.

I've never tried a Michelin pilot road tire. I read a lot of mixed reviews from riders.
