Switched Power Sources

Hello. New here. Just wondering the locations of switched power sources on the bike (2016 DL1000A).
Ideally at or towards the front of the bike.

All the vstroms I've had, 650s and 1000s, and my current 2014 1000 has a switched connector behind the radiator, lots of threads here on the location. It can be difficult to find, short, often taped up against a group of wires, but it is there. It's for Suzuki branded heated grips, I think. I've used it for aftermarket heated grips, or running lights, or heated vest or other items.
@Byronw I do appreciate the help, but firstly that doesn’t take me directly to any location of the switched power sources. It’s just a general link to multiple threads. If you’re gonna link me, link me directly to a post please.
Secondly all those bikes are from 2012 or below.
I always use the horn for switched power, a piggyback spade connector and your good to go.

I like that idea. Seems easier.
Just going to be running heated gear controller wiring off it.
I used the power wire on the diagnostic plug
I'd run a dedicated power source for heated gear, or something attached to the cigarette lighter plug
The lighter plug only has a 3a fuse, that would not support much load.

Exactly my thought! You could power anything you want with it then.
Look up under the left side of the gas tank, just behind the rad and you'll see it. Usually wrapped in a bit of white tape to the wiring harness

Look up under the left side of the gas tank, just behind the rad and you'll see it. Usually wrapped in a bit of white tape to the wiring harness

Thanks for that. I’m not really familiar or good with relays.2 questions though.
1. Why can’t I just use the wiring from the horn as was suggested in a previous comment?
2. Why can’t I just use the inbuilt/inline fuse the heated gear controller comes with?
I used it like that on my old bike and had no issues whatsoever.
Use it as a signal wire and properly run relays and fuses and dedicated power
Why would you choose to open up the dashboard, hack into the Suzuki wiring system causing a weak spot and possibly affecting the bikes warranty when you can with no tools or effort unplug a wire push on a spade fitting then replace that same wire, no cutting or hacking and it can be put back to the way it came from the factory within seconds.

The horn is just sitting there, you will not find anything with easier access, the horn wire can be used to trigger a relay if that is your preference.

So the horn still functions as well as being able to power the heated gear? Use a thick wire or whatever thickness bike wiring has?

umm so I used piggyback spade terminals and the heated gear controller only turns on when I push the horn button…once unpressed it turns off…


EDIT: NEVERMIND. Figured out the heated gear controller needs its own seperate earth. All working as intended now.
But I would suggest comments and posts be just a little more specific.
