I'm looking for a switched power connection that I can tap for a fuse box relay under the seat. On the old DL1000 I used the horn wire, but I'd like to find something closer so I don't have to run another wire up to the front.

Would there be any problem tapping the light for the license plate?

You want an orange wire with a green stripe or a brown wire. The latter is the tail/license light hot and will also be powered with the ignition in P though. The best O/G wire will probably be the one coming up from the brake light switch.

I took another look and there's a spare switched power connector taped to the tail light wire! Damn, I love this re-designed Vstrom.

Are you sure? What color is the wire you intend to use? It could be the dealer mode or diagnostic connector.

It's a 2-wire connector, black and white. One side is wired up and the other side of the connector is empty, no wires. I tapped the wires and it's a switched 12v.

That sounds like a dealer installed connector to me. Those are not Suzuki wire colors for such a purpose. Are you sure it is off when the ignition is off? I'll bet many other owners will find they don't have it. See if you can tell where the wires go.

Here's a picture. Originally I tapped these two wires for Hyper-lites when I thought it was part of the brake circuit. The female side of the connector is empty and the end was taped to the brake harness. The piece of black tape near the connector is my doing. I needed to cover the spots where I removed the taps.

The dealership did add a connector for a battery tender, but they didn't mention this little connector in the tail. That's why I think/thought it was stock.

That doesn't look stock to me, far from it in fact.

The dealership where I bought it is really a nice place, so it doesn't surprise me that they might add this. I can find all sorts of uses for it.

I don't see that connector on my bike (California 2014 Adventure). And at 9volts, could it be for a top-box brake light ?

Not Fragile, what year is your bike and I assume it is Canadian ?
