I mounted a SW mototech skid plate and it failed the first time I needed it. It was a very light bottom out and rear mount bent back. Also the plate itself bent like tin foil. Does anybody make a real skid plate? This would have worked on a 250-300lbs dirt bike but the dl1000 just weights to much.
Thanks, Craig

I think you said it all, (would have worked on a dirt bike). You didn't mention whether the plate saved the motor from damage. If it did, I think it did it's job. Since the wee/V is so heavy and since it has no under frame to support a plate, I think the best expectation is motor protection. It's something like a helmet, expendable in a crash.

Here is the answer to your call. This is no piece of tinfoil. In fact it is very solid and heavy. He did not put in relief hole for draining the oil or to allow the exhaust to route through it. It is just plain tough. His rear mount is also much larger then the SWM mount. I have one and it has done its job for me with out so much as a dent.

Thanks for reply. I was just looking at that plate this morning. I think I'm just expecting to much. Like was said, its only as strong as where its mounted. The SW motech looked just like the ones I've put on my dirt bikes and didn't think about how it was mounted.

Yes, it did save my 118.00 head pipe and probably the oil filter too. It will be no problem to bend everything back. The way Suzuki routed the exhaust lets you know their intened use of this bike.
