I bought a used motech rack and it did not come with any of the bolts or washers. My question is how do these mount to the foot peg area? Does it bolt in behind the peg?

Also, if anyone happens to know what size bolts are supposed to be used that would be great:thumbup:

Thanks
Bob

I just looked on mine. It's an M8x25 long and a nut on the back. If you can't find metric you can use 5/16-18 x 1 with a nut. Use nylock nuts if you can.

That makes it much more clear thank you!

when you mounted the upper tabs under the factory rack are you supposed to use some kind of spacer? I have a washer type spacer and then a much narrower cylindrical type spacer...I'm not sure what those are supposed to be for.

The inverted top hat spacers fit under the rack as pictured. Do you have a 1000 or a 650? On the 650, the SW-M tab is sandwiched between the passenger peg mount and the rear subframe using the rear screw. The narrow spacer fits between the mount and the subframe around the front screw.

I didn't receive those spacers... I wonder what else got left out...maybe buying a used rack wasn't such a great deal after all:headbang:

What would you guys suggest if I don't have those spacers for under the rack? How many spacers are supposed to have come with this rack?

Sorry for all of the questions but I received a box of parts and no instructions and now I'm left scrambling trying to figure out how this all goes together.

The three spacers I mentioned are it. One is the same thickness as the mounting tab to even out the passenger peg mount. The two under the luggage rack are about 8mm long each from memory, not by measurement, so somebody may have better figures. The bolts where there are spacers are longer than stock. The hardware bins at your local hardware store may have everything you need. The ends on the rear bar under the rack angle forward and down. The notches in the tabs that fit under the front rack bolts are to the rear. All the depressions on the mounting bars and tabs face away from the bike. The rack bolts get a little off target when re-installing as the rack angle changes slightly. It is normal to have to just start all four bolts and maybe keep the rack elevated to get them started. Once started, they can be tightened by bring in each one a little in a rotating pattern until they are all snugged down.

Ok, I'll swing by the hardware store tonight and see what I can grab.

My main concern are the spacers. I have two spacers that look like they go to the foot peg tabs. I do not have the ones for under the factory rack. Am I right in assuming that the front 2 bolts for the factory rack also have to be replaced? I would think they need to be longer to account for the tabs that sit under the front of the rack?

I've also noticed from other threads that I don't have the retainers for the quick lock fasteners...will these things even stay together without those retainers?

Dang. I forgot about the passenger peg mount on the other side. There are a total of four then. I forget whether all the fasteners are longer or just some. If the fasteners don't have the spring clips, you have a problem. Maybe Twisted Throttle can help. There are links to mounting instructions at http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/272/77/

Thanks for all your help Greywolf! I sent an email to Twisted Throttle to see if they sell the hardware seperately. I see on their wibsite I can get new fasteners that look like they come with the retaining ring. I was really hoping the retaining ring wasn't absolutely necessary but I guess it is more of a spring? Is this what puts the tension on the mounts to keep everything together?
