Suzuki is running a $199 promotion for any new buyer of a 2011 V Strom 650. Does anyone have first hand knowledge about these bags? Manufacturer ?size? Anything? Thanks
I bought my 2011 Strom about 2 weeks ago and went ahead and did the bag deal along with it. I figured the price was hard to beat. The dealership didn't have the bags in stock as it was a brand new promotion from Suzuki. As soon as I get them installed, I'll post a thread to let you know. Maybe by the end of the week.
The bags are the Suzuki OEM set up, including mounting hardware, as shown on their website. When I bought my Wee back on the 6th I ordered the bags which I have not received yet...
Just got my wee 1 week ago and decided to get the bags as well. I've read mixed reviews but at $199 it's a good start and then if they don't suit my needs I'll get something else and sell the OEM bags.
I picked up my '11 Wee just over 2 weeks ago, the bags are still not in. Every couple of days I follow-up with the dealership and have them call Suzuki. My next road trip is coming up soon and the bags would be much easier to use than tying a garbage bag to my seat to take clothes
I just bought a 2011 VStrom end of 9/2011 and also purchased the $199 bags special - believe it or not I'm still waiting on the bags from dealership 2 months later. They tell me they are on back order from the manufacturer....
How long did others wait for these side bags?
I purchased my Strom back a couple of weeks ago and ordered the bags. Yesterday I spoke with a rep from Suzuki and was informed the bags will be in the United States facility some time around December 17, than they will be distrubuted to the dealers. According to the rep Suzuki did not expect so many to take advantage of the offer and are now in a major backlog. Just my 2 cents worth hope it helps.
I bought a 2011 back in Sept., it took 4 weeks to get the luggage. They said it went through the promotions dept.. I see they are the same bags on the 2012 1000 adventure.
Sounds like nobody really knows what there gonna get, but hey, for $199, I would not worry about the wait, or what you get, it will be better than no bags!
Here are some pictures of the bags you will receive. In addition, you will receive the brackets to mount them. The brackets also come with a new bracket for a top mounted case that replaces your existing rear rack. You can't use you existing rear rack with these bags. Let me know if you need any more pictures or information. They are well worth the $199.00.
These look to be the same stupid luggage they sold with my 2010 GT. I can see the catch in the photos and its the same one that popped open on me a few times before I made Suzuki take them back and refund. If you check out V-strom sites you'll find out I was not alone. Save your money and buy a set of Givi or Kappas. The stupid shape does not allow much to fit in them either, I could only just squeeze my textile jacket into one. They have added a side reflector and made out they are new. Must be trying to get rid of all that old stock. Useless.
Gudday from Australia. My understanding is that the Suzuki bags and brackets are identical to the Givi and Kappa brands. Givi makes them all. Best check before acting on the (mis?)information, though. Cheers

Clearly Countrysailor and I have a different view of this luggage setup. I stand by my opinion that these are a great deal. Are they for someone that is going on a Dakar adventure? No, but for 95% of the riding that most of the vstom riders will do, the are fine. I have no issues with the capacity or shape either. My latches are fine but I do make sure they are closed properly before riding. Another benefit beyond the price is that if you purchase Suzuki's extended warranty they are covered for the duration of the warranty. For $200.00 buy them and sell them if you don't like them, you will have people lining up for them.
While I am not crazy about the style, these bags seem to be of similar or better quality to the two Givi top cases that I have.
I do find them awkard to close when they are packed. You basically have to lean on them with your leg a bit to ensure a positive latch. If I was going off road, I'd put a strap around them.
These bags are/were sold as a $1000 (or more) option up here. $200 is a steal of a deal.
If price is the main issue then by all means the OEM bags work ok. If you look around on this site and on Craigslist/ebay or a local paper it isn't too difficult to find used bags in superb condition. Such was the case (no pun) with my Givi 36 side cases and the 45(46?) liter top case and they are far superior IMO. They sit farther forward (not good for a passenger) and are much larger and better looking. I also suspect they will last longer than the proprietary bags.
While you are at it check out the City Bag for your tank, they're great!
