2015 Strom 650 abs is the ride.
I am looking for experienced folks to opinions about what I should do to upgrade the stock set up f&r suspension.
Aprox. 300 ~ 350 lb. fully loaded, mostly street / commute use, Jeep trails at most, plush ride a priority, as that my S/O wears a leg brace & has back injury's.
Of course, I'm a cheap bastard, but will spend on truly worthwhile results.
Let the discussion began!!!

see if he has a damper kit
should be about $300 and will likely fix any needs in the front
it is new springs, gold valves and new dampener rods
done 4 bikes now and loved them all

The general answer is that you'll need better fork springs up front, and maybe emulators or other valving solution in the forks, and either a good aftermarket shock or the stock one revalved and re-sprung.
For more specific advice I'd need a rider/passenger/luggage weight breakdown.

You can check with Cogent Dynamics as well. They ask about riding style and weights and other things to give you the optimum set up. They work with V Stroms and SVs too. New springs and a cartridge emulators in the forks and a new rear spring and shock for the rear. Maybe not cheap but I like what I have. Probably will not notice on a smooth road, but load up and hit rough patches and ripples, very nice.

I would start with springs first and the emulators. Add a stiffer spring in back, it may be enough. Cogent has been giving good service for years, just keep in mind the recommended spring rates are for max all around traction. I prefer a stiffer ride, more street like so I go two steps stiffer than the cogent recommended springs up front. Worked great for me. I like how cogent modifies the oem rear shocks. Well, I guess it still done that way. It's been a while since I needed a shock.

But, it's the same with custom seats, pick what you like. I've had a few bikes and learned I like less brake dive personally. I was bottoming out when ridding aggressively. But I did start out with the cogent recommended spring rates when I did my first suspension mod. It was good if your not aggressively braking often.

My dr650 was set up per cogent and it was great off pavement, I'm 260 pounds plus riding gear and tall, so stock suspension goes away quick on my bikes. I like added height and springs to give me decent loaded sag.

A question I really should have broken down better (like you said) so, here it is:
Rider aprox. 205.
Passenger 150 or so.
Luggage / added accessories / etc. 50 to 80 lbs total.
This would include top trunk & mounting, seat, center stand, tool / first aid bag, GPS, Mount, & added gauges & lights.
In total likely 400 or so pounds max.
Rider & 1/2 the gear only 70% of the time commuting, city & interstate.
Weekends on back roads to the graded roads / trails that you can drive a 2wd pickup over, nothing severe.
Is that broken down enough?

Sorry for the delayed response, I lost track of this thread.

I'd use 0.90 springs and 10w fork oil up front. The emulator or other valving option there you might wait on and see how you like just the springs and oil first.
For the rear, I second the DMr option, Jaime's a good guy and knows what he's doing.
