I mostly do it because I do it on my own terms and save money. I can probably change the oil and filter for around $30 bucks using Fram oil filter and Suzuki oil.

Bring it to the shop and see how it goes is all I can say. If you have no interest in it that's fine too. Most just have to do what they like to do.

I stopped over tightening the oil filter after repeated having to stab it and rip it off. Now I just go hand tight, around 1/2 turn. And don't over tighten the oil plug. Steel threads into aluminum don't work well.
