The product below is a result of multiple contacts over the years by people looking for a higher quality shelf. It's shown here in bare aluminum, but the production model will be powder coat black. It will not be as cheap as the sheet metal shelves, but I believe will represent a real value to those looking for something different.

The shelf platform is about 4 inches deep and 9 inches wide. The material is 3/16" (4.76 mm) 5000 series aluminum. It can be drilled and tapped for a ram ball to support a GPS, camera, etc. The leading and trailing edges gently curve to match the profile of the windshield in front, and in back to ensure full view of all instrumentation.

The price will be $80-ish with all mounting hardware included and models will eventually be available for both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 stroms.

Input on all discussed above is welcome.

I was honored to be the test pilot on this item. Trust me, you want one. It's solid with no flex, mounts solid and has plenty of room but isn't so big it looks out of place. Mine currently holds my GPS, my electronic toll pass, my cigar clip and my cup holder. I am disappointed though because with the other stuff, I couldn't fit my hula girl. I'll do pics and a better writeup in a couple of days. Currently out of town.

My CNC Plasma table has come on line.

A CNC plasma table is capable of making much larger items than a CNC mill. For a motorcycle the size is pretty much unlimited. The most immediate effect from this is that we can offer the shelf at a lower price.

I'm still seeking feedback on the shelf design. If your interested in trying a shelf shoot me a contact from our website.

That shelf looks strong. Hopefully vibration free too. At 3/16" thick I'm sure it is. Satin black coating would be look awesome.

Is it going to work in concert with the Madstad bracket? Don't want it to get in the way of the turning knobs. I usually tilt the bracket all the way back.

Yes, I hope to get one made this week end and mounted on my 2005 Wee for demo and trials.

And yes, it is completely compatible with the Madstad. The Madstad installs "piggyback" on top of the shelf mounting arms with the bolts supplied with the shelf.

I inally had time to make an over the dash shelf for the Gen 1 bikes using my own 2005 DL650 for beta testing. Installed it today and went for a ride. I was very happy with the results. In simple machine terms, there is slightly more "load arm" with the shelf than with our GPS mount, but it performed very, very well. I was surprised at how stable it carried a ram mounted GPS over rough pavement. I might put the GPS in the trunk to go off pavement (e.g., fire roads), but it handles rough pavement with ease. Here are some pics.

OK, I'm going to put the shelf on our website.

It can come with no hole, a pilot hole center front for a ram ball of your choosing later, or with a threaded hole with one of our ram balls included.

The shelves are $70. The ram ball with mounting bolt is $9.00.

Rick,

The shelf looks interesting, I have a madstad bracket with stock windshiled and was wondering, does it interfere with the range of motion of the windshield with the gps, phone, etc mounted on the shelf?

Thanks,
mikeg

The shelves are 100% compatible with the Madstad on all years except Vee2s. Which isn't an issue since you can't put a Madstad on a Vee2 anyway.

The Madstad goes on top of the shelf mount on Wee2s and the shelf mounts on top of the Madstad on Gen 1 bikes (Wee1 and Vee1s).

new model shelf for 1st gen Wee

I received my shelf for 1st gen Wee

no instructions, and the the referenced link on web site has no instructions for THIS shelf on the older Wee

holes in shelf plate do not line up with holes in front cowling

looks like I need to procure nuts, do some drilling, or something.

Too often, web purchases create headaches instead of solutions. So it is with this one.

Whereas the CURT wiring harness and trailer hitch that I bought for my 2008 Jeep Liberty had amazing color instructions, and all fit as advertised.

I just received a shelf for my 2012 Wee and it came with a plastic bag with the mounting hardware. I haven't started the install yet.
