Back in November of 2008, PO-SLOKE started a game called "Strom Cachers USA/Canada. Please see this link for the original thread http://www.stromtrooper.com/north-america/33162-strom-cachers-usa-canada.html and details of how that game was played. It was a fun and successful activity that was enjoyed by many Stromtrooper members. Unfortunately back in about July of 2010 the cache went MIA. This was very disappointing to those of us who participated in a cache hand-off, and to many who simply enjoyed following the thread and watching the journey.

Good news....
The Cache Game is Back! With PO-SLOKE'S permission, I have put together a new cache box and I'm ready to put it in play right away. We have learned a few things from the previous game and the rules have been changed slightly. For lack of a better term, I will be the Cache Captain and will try my best to moderate this thread with the help of a couple of other volunteers.

FAQ

What is The Cache Box?

This is the Cache Box. For simplicity we will often refer to the cache box as "the cache" but the cache is actually not the box but rather a token placed inside the box by the last rider to acquire it. The box must always contain 3 items: (1) The cache (2) Pen (3) Note Pad (journal)

What is the cache? To start the game, I will place a small item inside the box which is called the "cache". This item is the prize or reward for the next rider who acquires the box. The cache can be anything you want to pass on to the next rider. The only rule is that it must fit neatly inside the box. Typical cache items include: pins, stickers, small state souvenirs, coins, stamps, cards, etc. Try to make the cache something personal and interesting. Be creative! It may be something about you, your city/state/province, occupation, etc.

How do I get the cache? You follow this thread and the journey of the cache. When the cache is in your proximity, you make arrangements with the current holder of the cache to meet for a cache exchange. If you want to follow the progress, you should subscribe to this thread and have an automatic email sent to you whenever there is a new post.

What do we do when we meet to exchange the cache? You should do three things (1) Take a Photo of the riders involved in the cache exchange. The typical photo is one with both riders, both bikes, and the cache box being passed by hand to the other rider. (2) Make an entry on the note pad with the following: Date of exchange - GPS coordinates and/or physical address of the exchange location - Stromtrooper screen names of both riders - Any other notes or message you wish to include into the cache journal.

I have the cache, now what do I do? (1) Remove the cache token left in the box by the previous rider to keep as your prize (2) Replace the cache with one of your own to pass to the next rider (3) Come back to this thread and post a report of your the exchange including the photo. (4) Arrange an exchange with another rider to keep the cache moving.

How much time do I have to pass the cache?
In the previous game the rule was 72 hours (3 days). We are going to extend that to 1 week. Even with that extension, we understand that depending on location and season it may take longer. All we ask is that you try to move it within a week and do your best to keep the cache moving as quickly as possible. If you are unable to arrange an exchange with another rider within that time, please let us know and we'll do what we can to help. We may decide to have you keep trying or ask you to mail the cache box to another rider. We just don't want to have the cache stalled somewhere for several weeks.

What if we can't meet at the same time? In some cases it will be allowed to "geocache" the box. Let's say that you can only ride on a Tuesday but your cache exchange partner can't ride until Saturday. You can arrange with your partner to hide the box in a safe location where only your partner will find it. You must give clear directions to the location. When you place the box, take a photo and post it here telling us what you are doing. When the partner gets the box, he/she will post a photo of the cache retrieval. The downside to this is If the other partner is unable to retrieve the box within a week, you will need to go back and retrieve it or arrange for another rider to get it. Use this provision as a last resort.

Please don't get too hung up on the "rules". Try your best to keep the cache moving, but do whatever makes sense in your particular situation. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance from us or your fellow Stromtroopers. The objective is to have an excuse to ride, meet other riders, and have a new experience.

We are very excited to get this game going again! It can be a great way for you to ride to places you otherwise wouldn't and share the experience with other V-Strom riders who share your passion for riding. I hope many of you will choose to participate and I promise you that your efforts will be rewarded in unexpected ways.

GAME ON!

WHOOT WHOOT ! Great job Andreas . Hope this thing gets rolling again . Might be a little slow moving for a bit cuz winter is upon us . But no doubt the winter riders bring something inredibly interesting to the table everytime they get invloved .

I'll try to help keep an eye on things with ya best I can and keep the StromTroopers encouraged and appreciated .

This has proven to be an immensely strong tool for getting riders together and great friendships have stemmed from it's past history .

Best of the best to all those who endeavor !

I'll help, even if the only thing I know about 'moderate' is "All things in moderation except motorcycling!". ((I think thats how it goes...))

Good job on the re-boot Andreas, and of course Po-Sloke for being the originator. :hurray:

This is exciting!!!!!

I know it's not what you had planned, but I'm willing to meet up for a cache hand-off and I will try to quickly move it to somebody else. Or we can both ride and hand it off to somebody further away...
It needs to get moving....go for it!

Had to change from sunday, 2mstone had a schedule change,

Out ride took us to a great sinclair station, too bad someone took the old pumps

I would like to arrange a cache exchange with anyone who can carry it south to AZ, NV or So. Cal in order to get it out of Utah before we get socked in with snow. If we can't get it south, next best would be Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado.

Shout out to 2mstone, Vegashotwheeler, WiredDriver...anyone else?

It looks like we have a window of about 4-5 days that will still be fair weather and rideable here along the Wasatch. Anyone who can help please let me know. Let's get this thing on the move!

MOST EGGZELLENT JOB GUYS ........

I love those old Sibclair gas stations . There are still a few remnants standing all around the country . One of my fondest and funniesrt memories of my ealrist motorcycling years was in front of a Sinclair station that was still in operation full bore in the late 70's .

A bunch of us were all standing around in front of a Sinclair station and a buddy of mine rolled up in his car . He was all talking big about what a great rider he was and was harrassing everyone to let him ride their bike . FINALLY , someone was foolish enough to let him jump on there steed . So Frankie jumps on the guys chopper , throttle to the ceiling , dumps the clutch ..............

Across the parking lot , striaight across the highway , across the median , across the opposite direction two lanes and THWACK ! Tries to split a guard rail right down the middle .

Needless to say , Frankie hasd lied to everyone about being a rider . Truth be told , he had never been on a bike before other than a min-bike . I gott tell ya though . Busted that guys cool chopper up like a Match Box Car . Frankie crawls outta the ditch the other side of the guard rail and say , " MAN , I TORE MY BRITCHES " . Gets back in his car and drives away .

Good old Frankie . Always good for excitement he was . Died an early age that guy did .

Sorry about the story . But the Sinclair brought it to mind . I am the last one to find humor in a motorcycle wreck at any level . But that one is still funny . roflol

We are still refining the game a bit. Please note on the main post that we have added a new provision as follows:

We're always open to your ideas and suggestions.

How about if we update the thread to reflect where the cache is right now. I think Satch has it somewhere is Utah but more detail would be better. With all the talk of it going south I guess it won't make it to Missouri till spring at the earliest. I will be watching this thread with interest.

My best suggestion to keep an ongoing awarness of where the cache is and and who to current possesor is , is to have Andreas ( at all times ) , and the current possessor to keep it posted in their signature lines . We did that before and it really helped awarness in all regards for the cache . That was probably one of the biggest draws to the fun simply because any and everywhere you post in these forums , people briefly read about the cache .

Just my input . But it does help and work .

Cache is with Satch in Salt Lake City - UTAH. :yikes: We only want to ship the Cache south for weather reasons, just a tad warmer and drier than here in SLC, even if we could get it to Cedar City that would make for a good start ,
But looking at the weather we are having, think Satch may have to hold onto the Cache for a few extra Days.
