On my 2006 Vee w/ 77k miles I have a weird noise that I have absolutely no clue and cannot pin down. This will be vary vague as I am not even sure exactly where the noise is coming from. Only when I am moving at slower speeds (sub 25mph) when I start turning it sounds like leafs ruffling?? I can only get it to make that sound when I am moving and I dont think it is the timing chain cause it does not sound to slappy, and it will never make the sound when running but not moving. However it does sound like it is coming from between the tank and the instrument cluster. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check your mount bolt at the front of the fuel tank for tightness. This is the bolt that the tank pivots on when you undo the rear tank mount bolt, that is sometimes required to top-up the rad fluid on some Wee's. I know nothing about Vee's so not sure if its a similar setup. Also, a shot in the dark on my part...

Front tyre? Lift it off the deck and spin it. Examine the tread all around.

Andy, you need to determine if it is engine / front wheel / chain related / tupperware. A steep decline, not engine required and in neutral, will help for the testing the front wheel / chain theory. If these prove negative, then check the airbox or as gdrew suggested, the mount bolt at the front of the fuel tank for tightness or even perhaps a tupperware securing screw that has needs checking for vibration. Since you have to start somewhere, try the down hill run with no engine power, as a starting point.

Only when I am moving...... at slower speeds (sub 25mph).... when I start turning..... sounds like leafs ruffling
Andy, lots of good ideas already posted about isolating the noise. Got a center stand? Get the front wheel off the ground. Spin it and move the forks back and forth to see if the noise appears. Check your brake pads to see if you are metal on metal -- could make the sound on a slow speed turn if one pad falls onto the rotor. Also, stand in front of the bike, straddling the front tire, lift the nose from under the headlights. Does this nose cone move up any? The Vee has a history of losing a bolt that holds the nose cone firm in place. There are two bolts and when I lost one it took me a long time to find that noise. Greywolf assured me it was a common problem. The bolt is accessed straight down under the ignition switch. Ride the bike and try to make the noise happen again, like in a parking lot where you have room to experiment with it. When it does, pull clutch. Still there? Rev engine. Still there? Turn the other way. Still there? Apply brake but keep throttle/speed going. Still there? Let us know what else you learn as you try to isolate the noise. There is lots and lots of help on this forum!!

Thank you guys for all the replies!! I will get to checking all those things and report back to you. I know its not the gas tank bolt as I have already had and issue with that and solved it with a nylon nut.

On that bike the 2 bolts that hold the fairing to the bike frame up at the steering head often come loose, even falling out and jamming up the steering.

Have a good look at those bolts and put some locking agent on them while you are there.

Another thought, check on the front fender / mud guard clearance, fender may be catching the crash bars as you turn, https://www.stromtrooper.com/dl650a-2012-2016/403458-fender-catches-engine-guards.html or even the steering stem bearings? See this write up for more info, https://blacklabadventures.com/2012/02/28/steering-stem-bearing-replacement-upgrade/

Well I have tugged and pulled on everything I can get my hands on but nothing seems loose. I was however able to record it with my phone in the ram mount. You can hear it well at the beginning of the video and it was also happening when not turning. I am also trying to post the video but I guess I am too new to the forums.

Andy, I am allowing you some leeway as you appear to be a genuine owner but be aware that post count padding is against the rules
I will let it pass if in return you will include your bike and year, and your state to your User CP. What you might suggest to a person who lives in Maine may not be appropriate for somebody who lives in Arizona. It sometimes changes the offered advice.

The same goes for all who do not have their bike and locality on their User CP.

Did you find and check the 2 bolts I mentioned ?

All Wee riders should check those bolts and have them fixed in place, they may take many many years to work loose but when they do it can be dangerous.

One of my bolts on a 2009 Wee fell out in 2015, I was reversing into a parking spot when the steering jammed up, lucky I was moving a walking pace & it was a small country town, I was able to leave the bike in the middle of the road while I investigated the jammed up steering.

If you search this site you will find many who have had the same bolts fall out.

Also some have reported a noise from the speedo drive at the front wheel could that be your noise ??

Those two bolts check out. I have checked all the other bolts related to brakes and suspension. If I figure it out I will let you guys know what was causing it.

This a 650 or 1000, I'm assuming a 1000 since you said "Vee"? Does it make the sound with either right or left turn, and assuming you have a centerstand, can you replicate it when spinning the wheel and then turning the bars? I'm thinking this is nothing of concern to be honest, but it does have me interested as to the cause. If it's a first gen 650 I'm gonna say its the speedo cable, or could very well be your brake pads making noise.

It is a Vee so there is no speedo cable, and I'm starting to have the same feeling about it, I've checked all the essentials I could think of and have found no problems.
