Hypothetically speaking  , what would be the best way to attach a radar detector to a strom so that it would not be noticed by the Tax Collectors? They are illegal in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
For the rest of us working people you can put it anywhere it is not blocked by metal. You do lose the LASER capabilities by hiding behind plastic but the radar is virtually the same. You will want to put a power switch somewhere to turn it off. Will not do to have the thing beeping like crazy while talking with the cop.
i'm a cheap ass...i just velcroed a beltronics 895 ($200 at radioshack) to the little space above the gauges.
as far as stealthieness goes...if you see smokey, i would just pull it off and shove it in your pocket or tank bag...when i was going to Virginia Tech i had a detector on my dash in my truck that (if i had ever gotten pulled over) i woulda just thrown it in the back seat.
although its not one of the super fancy brands i LOVE this detector...i picked up a K band at 2 miles from behind a hill and around a corner last night...this thing is awesome!
You could attach the radar detector under one of the dash pannels and plug a "radar screamer" into the radar as a audible warning system. Or attach the radar to the inside of one of the tank panels. I have a Radar Screamer on both of my bikes, it has saved me from many tickets. You can hear the radar screamer go off a 85 mph with a full face helmet and ear plugs. I use a escort 8500 detector.
The V1 is the most difficult to detect with the different Radar detector detectors.
It may be the most expensive but you can do a stealth install and have a remote display and a speaker with volume control. Both extra items. If you mount it permanently it needs to be away from the environment it's not water proof. So it needs to be in a box or baggie.. All I have seen done.
It can be an almost inviable install and is the most invisible of them all with electronic detection equipment.
Not for tools, purpose is for more lighter objects (bike cover, heated vest, gloves, hats, cool vest, maps, etc). I made these from 4" x 4" Plastic "fence post" purchased at Lowes. They also sell a 5" x 5" post. In retrospect, I should have just purchased a wider Pelican Topbox......oh well...
Hey all, I am in the market for a replacement battery for my Wee. I've greatly enjoyed the benefits of Lithium based batteries in my off road bikes, but the benefits for that application are significantly greater than for a Wee since (a) the weight savings is a more significant portion of the...
I want to save anyone thinking about mounting one of these Ravetech GPS mounts on their 2017+ V-Strom 650s, which cost $48.17 with shipping on ebay.
I waited exactly one month for the mount to arrive from Thailand and upon arriving I mounted it on my 2019 V-Strom 650XT Touring. Once I had it...
I've seen a few people asking for a set of plans for the DL650 so I've gone through the process of creating a CAD file which can be used on a CNC machine to cut out the bash plate or simply used for the measurements and angles.
