WNC Gravel Videos

WNC Gravel Videos. As an average rider at best, I was alone in Nov 2012 when I recorded these. Thus the pace is boringly slow, not intended as entertainment, but rather as a reconnaissance aid for adventure motorcyclists. Mileage approximate. Tried to only post videos that were not already on the web. A caution: All of the best riders I know have been forced off the gravel by an oncoming vehicle. Info: GSMNP 828-497-1900; Nat. Forest Svc. 828-524-6441.

Cowee Bald Rd Cowee Bald Road - YouTube /Conley Creek Rd Conley Creek Road - YouTube (My commute to work for years): From NC74 take 28S X14M, turn L onto West Mills Rd, then immediately turn L onto Snow Hill RdX3M, turn L onto Leatherman Gap Rd. X2M which becomes Cowee Bald Rd (Gravel)X5M, turn L onto Conley Creek Rd (Gravel)X6M. At end of gravel, paved Conley Cr. Rd takes you to Whittier, NC and exit 76 on NC74.

Cherokee Figure 8: 62M (37M gravel) Dobson Ridge Rd Dobson Ridge Road - YouTube /Hyatt Creek Rd Hyatt Creek Road - YouTube /Bunches Creek Rd Bunches Creek Road - YouTube /Jenkins Creek Rd Jenkins Creek Road - YouTube : NC19X1M E of Cherokee Casino turn L onto Wrights Creek RdX5M, turn R onto Dobson Ridge Road (Gravel)X5M, after BRPW underpass turn R onto Hyatt Creek Rd.(Gravel)X5M, turn L onto Heintooga SpurX8M, at cul de sac take Roundbottom Rd (Gravel)X17M, turns to pavement for 2M, turn L onto Big Cove RdX1M, turn L onto Bunches Creek Rd, 1st 4M paved then 5M Gravel, turn L at end of road, go a few feet and turn R onto Dobson Ridge Rd. again, thru underpass again, then in a few feet turn L onto Jenkins Creek Rd. (Gravel) X5M, turn R onto NC19X5M back to Wrights Creek Rd, completing the figure 8. Must be ridden in this order because Roundbottom Rd. is 1-way. Roundbottom open about May 13-Nov 30.

Hyatt Cove Rd Hyatt Cove Road - YouTube (Gravel): 2M, begins within feet of the beginning of the Heintooga Spur off the BRPW. At this junction on Heintooga Spur are Hyatt Cove Rd. to R or south and Hyatt Creek Rd. to L or north. Ends at NC19 .3M W of BRPW.

Rainbow Springs Rd Rainbow Springs Road - YouTube /Otter Creek Rd Otter Creek Road - YouTube /Tellico Gap Rd Tellico Gap Road.m4v - YouTube /Needmore Rd Needmore Road - YouTube (all 4 Gravel): From Ironhorse take 28SX10M, turn R onto NC74(West)X14M, turn L onto Wayah RdX29M, turn R (West) onto [email protected], turn R onto Rainbow Springs Rd X13M, turn L onto Wayah [email protected] M, turn R onto Otter Creek Road which becomes Tellico Gap Rd.X15M, turn L onto Needmore Road @7M(Gravel first 3M), turn L onto NC74 (West) Xfew feet, turn R (North) onto NC28S and back to Ironhorse.

Goldmine Rd Goldmine Road - YouTube /Dendy Orchard Rd Dendy Orchard Road - YouTube /Turtlepond Rd Turtlepond Road - YouTube /Hale Ridge Rd Hale Ridge Road - YouTube (all 4 Gravel): NC28SX44M turn R onto Peeks Cr. i thought ironhorse was a campground ?
Da'Horse has it all...........a "primative" campground (grassy area, with gravel pits........some with hook-ups), a huge Lodge and gift shop/supply store, a Bunkhouse (multiple beds in one room), private rooms, and semi-private rooms (share a bathroom). All sleeping areas above are within 200 feet of the Lodge. VERY NICE showers/restroom facilities........coolers to borrow (or maybe rent?) to store your beverages in while camping (it's a "Dry County"......have to ride a ways to buy your beer). Go to the Ironhorse website and see the pics............FIRST CLASS place!!

If tent camping, no reservations required for the Rally.........(except maybe the spots with hook-ups.....not sure how that works).

Lodge has a gigantic TV screen inside, large back porch with rocking chairs after a long day's ride + benchracing, big firepit in back, tons of area maps inside to plan your strategies, bike magazines, free internet + a computer to use, gift shop (T's, apparel, etc), and some supplies (chips, soft drinks, snacks). They also have full hook-ups in front for RV's.........

Would love to meet some Strommers. I can meet everyone at Ironhorse to ride but will most likely be staying at Cherokee for the evening.

Everything Mark said, plus good food. Breakfast and dinner provided at a reasonable price, except Monday and Tuesday (Chef's days off).

what time does the store-lodge, restaurant open in the morning? TIA..
It's not really a typical restaurant. You put your breakfast order in the night before and then you show up at the lodge in the morning and it's prepared. When yours is ready they holler your name. Same thing with the evening meal, you sign up in the morning. Or you can do it all at registration time.

Coffee is ready about 7:00 AM and the food about 7:30 AM shortly after, if my memory is correct. If incorrect, someone else please chime in.

If important, give them a holler. Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge

Thanks for posting.

I know I've been on many of these roads but I was following a lunatic nd my handwriting was indecipherable.

I'm planning on being there.

I'll be there............

......did I mention that I'm "trying" to get my (4) nieces to tag along with me to the Rally this May?? Except, sometimes they can be really "clingy".......:devil_21:
I've only got a one-man tent..... but feel confident they can find someplace to bunk for the weekend??

Yeah, why is that? ...
I think it's because Bill tells the Iron Horse that we (Stromers) will be back up there the same time next year in order for them to block out a weekend for us at Da Horse........he's reserving it a year in advance so some other Biker Group does not grab it ahead of us. I bet the Rick's Rally Admin's are doing the same thing where they are staying........reserving it a year in advance?? I guess sometimes you have to pick your battles.....
