The NGK CR8EIA-9 is OEM.
It is a very long lasting iridium plug that promotes a strong spark. It defies logic as to why Suzuki recommends their replacement every 7500 miles.
I will replace mine at the next valve check. They have done 63,000kms.
In general on all vehicles the OEM plug is normally the best. Think about it....the manufacturer did hundreds of hours of testing to get that engine to run properly with lowest possible emissions. Trust me, they pay a LOT of attention to getting the right plug in the machine.. Something else I noticed as a young mechanic: Using a "cross over" chart I would see things like one Champion or Bosche plug crossing over for three or four different NGK's. Really? Why did NGK fine tune all those different plugs when just one would cover all of them. (Because it won't!)
The reason you have all those numbers and letters on that plug is that it is very specialized for the application. Sure, there are times when a different plug might be "OK" but most generally on a stock machine the OEM number is the way to go. Of course you don't have to buy if from Suzuki. They just add another level of mark up to the price. Now, on modified engines....that is a different story. When I raced I had a special little illuminating/magnifier tool and would "read" the plug and adjust the heat range up or down to suit the conditions that day.
