My friend Ernie has had my 650 in his shop for a month or so tinkering with it and here is what he has done to it.

He built some aluminum pannier racks and mounted a set of aluminum bags

Also note the hyper lights on a custom bracket above the plate. I'm a firm believer on those hyper lights!

he also came up with a cool radiator guard

I think the headlights on the strom are better than the ones on my truck but I guess a little more wouldn't hurt. he mounted up a set of PIAA's on the forks

and to keep it from sinking, he made a fat foot for it.

He also said that if I get a set of crash bars he would make a skid plate for me but I don't know if I can afford it, kinda looks like I might owe him a few bucks!!!

Looks like my old strom will be well set up for this summers travels! I can't wait to ride it again. I had ordered a black 08 650 last summer when they were announced but my dealer gave me a screaming deal on an 07 with 150 miles that I couldn't pass up. I finally got to see one at the cycle show in Minneapolis last weekend and I sure like it! I don't regret getting my silver one though.

He is selling the fat foots and the lgihts and radiator guard. He is thinking that the fat foot will only work with one that don't have the centerstand due to clearance issues.

I just wanted to show off some of the new toys and didn't know if it was appropriate to post links. Here is a link if anyone is interested.

So what would be the best crashbars to base a skid plate off of? I was thinking about the Givi bars.

I've had issues with Givi bars and ripped them off to put on Hepco Beckers. They are honestly about the same but I have less vibration with the H&B's.

Yeah, they are the same ones klr.com sell but I'm not sure if he got them there or from some distributor.

Looks like the clearence is real right with the centerstand so you folks with those will have to stick to the old method for now.

I put the Touratech fat foot on my 650. It has no clearance issues with the Motech center stand but it will not work with the Suzuki cs.

Interesting. Do you have any pics? Is the motech cs more popular than the Suzuki one or are most people getting them from the dealer when they get the bikes?

Cool. You should come to my 600+ mile gravel ride that I'd putting on this summer!

The KLR.com panniers appear to be pretty nice. I know my friend Ernie that is doing the work has a couple sets of panniers and he thought he might get a set of these since they are pretty nice and light weight.

I guess he found a piece of aluminum tubing that is about the same size as the muffler so he bead blasted it and made it into some sort of a trick tool tube on the opposite side of the muffler. I'll post a pic as soon as I can get one from him.
