Howdy - looking for user experience/recommendations for soft panniers and a rack mounting system for my 2009 wee-strom. The soft panniers from Ortlieb, Wolfman and Nelsen-Rigg looking interesting but I have no idea what rack system to use with them. Suggestions?

Cheers!

I have Rev Packs deluxe saddlepacks and superdeluxe saddlepacks as well as their excursion pack and would buy them again. Roomy, easy to load, durable, lightweight, and stay dry. Had the deluxe for 4 years and the others 2 years and have had no issues. The saddlebags don't use zippers and have a simple but effective flap that makes entry easy. Last year I rode to Ore. for the gathering using the super and excursion as well as a 929 top box. I had camping gear, cooking gear and more stuff than I needed with room for more. I weighed all my gear including the bags and top box and it came to 100 lbs. I put the big Jesse boxes on a 1200gs and just the boxes and mounting hardware was over 50lbs. Rev Pack may not be your choice as there are a lot of good bags on the market but I would look them over.

PS I made my own support on road side using 1"x1/8" aluminum straps sold at home improvement stores, and let the curbside bag lay on the exhaust heatshield.

I recently mounted Wolfman Monarch Pass bags on my Vee. Basically they can mounted on a special mounting frame or pretty much any other mounting frame. Since Wolfman didn't have one of their special frames for the Vee (or Wee), I bought their strap kit and mounted the bags on my OE side case brackets. Once you have all eight hook and loop straps attached it only takes a couple of minutes to put the bags on or take them off.

Look at the Wolfman videos to get an idea how the bags attach. Then sketch something out and my guess would be any local welding shop can fabricate some side supports that will work just fine.
