I am still getting used to the wee. I have now put about 2000 miles on her, and am starting to really bond with my wee. But she still has some secrets. One that baffles me it how much fuel is left when the bottom bar is lit and the fuel pump symbol is flashing. Filled up to the top of the rim this evening, and it only took 4.2 gallons. What does the display look like when it is really getting empty? I want to know when I have only 10 miles left, not when I still have 60+ :iamwithstupid:

You don't want to let the fuel tank get too near empty. Gas cools the in tank fuel pump.

Just ride it until the light blinks and fill it up. Easy.

On a sidenote, I love that there are 5 markings for fuel level, on a 5 gallon tank. Finally a manufacturer makes it easy for us to estimate how much fuel is left!

I fill up on the last marking. I have always assumed fuel pumps shouldn't be run dry or close to it if it can be helped.

The fuel marks are nowhere near equal. You'll travel longer on the higher marks than the lower ones.

Boo. Stuff like this irks me. I did notice that my 1st mark brought me through "80" miles before it disappeared. Silly manufacturers not letting their gauges be accurate. I hate when they try to protect us from ourselves - having the "E" on a car not ACTUALLY be empty, having a speedometer show a faster speed than what we're actually doing, that sorta stuff. I'm an adult. Let ME be responsible for my actions once in a while!

on my Vee, I get 80-100 miles before the first bar dissapears , then after that they drop in 35-40 miles incriments

with one bar, it taks about 4.2 gasz to fill, if it starts flashing, it takes about 4.9 to fill, and I have put 5.844 in without running out  I thought is was only a 5.8 gal tank, I fill on sidestand, no jiggling to get more in

the thing ya gotta remember is that when you get low, on twisty roads you can starve for fuel in corners, only when yer on a straight flat road can you get the most out of a tank, and as stated, the fuel cools the fuel pump, its good to leave a gallon in reserve

Randyo, you the man! Filled the tank with it on fumes!
I did that with my first jeep. Rolled into a station with the tank showing empty but not sputtering and gave it what the book says it should hold, 10.5 gals.
Mine I know is down to half tank when the 2nd bar goes out. After that it's a guess. Like Yankeepac I've had the last bar blinking at me for a while and only got 4.5 gallons in it. I'd like to have a more accurate representation of what is actually in the tank.
But, not to worry, even German motorcycles have very inaccurate fuel tank indications too. They lie very convincingly! And those folks paid the really big bucks for that lie!:green_lol: LIke me!:yikes:

Definitely not linear and my '05 was much different from my '07. Haven't decided where the '12 fits yet -- it6 seems to give me more at the "near empty" end than the other two bikes did.
