Hey Y'all ,
New here and VERY V Curious. Currently own a 2009 Victory Vision Street Premium which has a wet weight of 850lbs. Fantastic ride single or 2 up.
Suffering from lower back problems ( not to severe to keep one from riding). I or should I say we spend alot of time riding... Grand Canyon, Outer Banks, lenghty road trips in comfort and handling. Which brings me to a question I probably have read and answered too. But help me/us decide..as I mentioned 850lbs can mean alot of stress on the ol' back, but how is the V Strom with the lighter weight and 2 up machine able to replace my current ride? We love to follow the " End of the Road" which can't be done on a Victory( unless it's parking lot smooth). I have been reading many,(especially the 2 up) opinions on touring and off road. Can some one who is 6'6" 220 lbs & wifey 5'10" 155 lbs. enjoy riding across country or local unpaved roads with the ocasional wash out be comfortable??? We test rode BMW (pricey for a dual sport)and the KTM (seat of a 2X4). Yamaha is not proven yet.(not for 2 up)The V is where I think we want to be.

Lots of options available to customize the fit are available, lots of upgrades & farkles to improve,change,modify...its a better handling bike with more than adequate touring capability and it will go fast enough to get you a really impressive speeding ticket anywhere in North America. They have been made for over 10 years with improvements being made on a continuous basis...and best of all?...its unique, its not a cruiser that mimics a Harley.

My question is, Is this to replace the Victory or compliment the Victory?

Having indicated your aesthetic tastes in your current motorcycle selection, I think you are capable of loving the V-Strom. Still, I would suspect your current bike would be superior in two-up riding.

Yamaha has been making various models of their Ténéré line since 1991. The 1200 Super Ténéré is the latest and greatest, debuting in 2010. I'd get one without concerns if it was the bike that best suited my needs. Also look at the Triumph Tiger line.

If the KTM best meets your needs, get an aftermarket or custom seat.

I've owned two 650 stroms, but for you, maybe the new 2012 1000 strom (actually the 2012 version of the old Vee) would work the best. The 650, regarded as being more nimble, is the better bike for unpaved roads, but the 1000 has more power for two-up on highways. The choice is yours. Here we all like the stroms for their low cost of purchase and M&R, excellent reliability, and fun. Along with the low cost of the stroms, budget some money for suspension upgrades. Better front damping valves, better damping shock, and front & rear springs that correctly suit your loaded riding weight will greatly improve the bike. In a couple of areas most of us think Suzuki should have put a bit more cost into the bikes--suspension, seat, windscreen.

I got back into biking back in 04 when I purchased a new 1500 Intruder.I also have lower back problems.I suffered with that bike for 5 years until I sold it and bought the 650 Wee after taking a friends Vee for a good ride.As soon as I got on it I realized that the position was right for me as well as the superior suspension. The lower seating position with the feet forward as well as the harsher suspension on the cruiser made long rides pretty uncomfortable for me.I did install a Russell seat with a back rest, as the stock seat on the Wee just didn't cut it, and improved the suspension.
The fact that I can take this bike places the cruiser could never go is icing on the cake and more suited to my personality.My wife also prefers the ride of the Strom over the Intruder.
One thing that pleasantly surprised me after I rode the Strom on a few long rides(10-12 hr days) was that I didn't get as tired as I did on the heavy cruiser.

When I sold the cruiser after 5 years it had 24,000 kilometres on it.
If I hadn't crashed the Strom in August (another story) it would have well over 40,000 kilometres on it in 3years.That pretty much says it all right there.

There are lots of bikes out there right now that will fit the bill for you.You just need to figure out what is best for you and how much you want to spend.I think Suzuki will give you the best bang for your buck however if I was looking for a new machine right now I would take a hard look at the Super Tenere.

Whatever you end up with enjoy the ride and keep us informed.

OKAY I have decided on the V and ready to go ........... her it is June 2012 and the dealer doesn't have one yet .....WTF???? :furious: In a few months the 2013 models will be arriving. Any one else have a dealer with no V's?? :confused:







Think it is time to try a different dealer :yesnod:

I just want to shake the hand of the man who was able to "sell you" on the Vision. Yeesh...who knew Raoul Duke was styling motorcycles?

I was on a cruiser for 14 yrs and I forgot how fun riding could be. The Strom is a blast in the twisties and rough roads.

I'm just a few years away from being old enough to consider a Goldwing, and the GW I rode was an absolute blast.

But I'm having trouble with the concept of buying a motorcycle that costs more than my car. And that's bigger and weighs more than my car.

Is there a medication for this problem?

There's a pill for everything, otherwise aquire new a full size pickup truck first.

No, but you jsust need to buy a bigger and more expensive car!

I don't think I wil ever be old enough for a Goldwing but have incredible respect for the bike.

I was fortunate enough last year to spend four days and 2,000 km riding a 2010 Gold Wing in the Alberta and Bristish Columbia Rockies. The bike deserves respect.. it does everything it is intended to do amazingly well. It is comfy, smooth, handles extreley well, fast and generally super competant.

For me though I really enjoy the go-almost-anywhere ability of the Strom. I rode about 57,000 km on my 2006 last year on long trips that included Maine, Cabot Trail and Gaspe and another trip that included the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. The Strom is an awesome travelling machine!

Up till now, my Wife and I have never been more than 400 miles (1 way) and 2 nights stay on a bike. She now wants to travel cross country. I've decided the best bike for that is the goldwing. I will have one by this time next year.
